On the evening of November 18, Mr. Tran Ngoc Sang - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Duc Pho Ward (Quang Ngai Province) - informed: The local government is coordinating with relevant units to plan to rescue a 2,000-liter oil tanker that was washed ashore by large waves and stranded on sand (near the coast) in Trung Ly residential group, Pho Quang Ward.
Previously, on November 16, the cargo ship HY 0459, with a capacity of 250CV, owned and captained by Mr. Nguyen Cong Sinh (from Hai Phong), was traveling from Hai Phong to Can Gio. There were 5 crew members on board. When moving to the coastal area of Quang Ngai, the ship suddenly broke the steering wheel and drifted. At around 6:00 p.m. the same day, the ship was hit by waves and ran aground at the above location.
Upon receiving the news, the People's Committee of Duc Pho Ward dispatched forces with officers and soldiers of Pho Quang Border Guard Station and local authorities to quickly approach the scene and support the crashed ship.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Minh Thu, Head of Pho Quang Border Guard Station, said: Through on-site inspection, the health of all crew members is stable; the risk of oil spills from the damaged ship is not high. The unit has supported the captain to fix the steering wheel and arrange temporary accommodation for the crew members at the people's shrimp cages.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Minh Thu, due to the conditions of big waves and strong winds, rescue work has not been able to be deployed. Currently, sand has partially filled the iron ship. Pho Quang Border Guard Station is contacting a specialized unit in Dung Quat (Quang Ngai) to survey the situation. When the weather is stable, the authorities will salvage and towing the ship to the repair facility.
