Potential risk of traffic safety
According to the Department of Transport (DOT) of Lam Dong province, Bao Loc Pass on Highway 20 currently has 12 locations at high risk of landslides in the rainy season of 2024. It is worth mentioning that the locations are landslides and at risk. Landslides are appearing more and more along Bao Loc pass.
National Highway 20 serves as a vital traffic route connecting Lam Dong province with southern provinces and cities. Therefore, if landslides are not handled promptly, there will be many potential risks of traffic safety.
As for Prenn Pass, the section passing through Da Lat City (Lam Dong province), it was newly expanded and upgraded not long ago. However, on the pass there are still many high cliffs without slopes. Some road sections at the beginning of the pass were built with slopes to prevent landslides, but there are also locations at the foot of the mountain that are almost dug deep, posing a potential risk of landslides if there is heavy rain or strong winds. In addition, there are large, jagged rocks lying close to the road but not yet reinforced, causing concern for road users...
In Kon Tum, this is a province with many high mountains and hills located in the North of the Central Highlands region. With terrain conditions mainly consisting of steep passes, rivers and streams, almost every year important national and provincial highways are divided, eroded, and seriously subsided... This has caused loss of traffic safety, divided cut some areas.
The most worrisome places are the roads in Tu Mo Rong, Kon Plong, Dak Glei districts... Here, provincial and national highways pass through steep slopes and craggy mountains, with deep abysses on one side and deep abysses on the other. The rest are steep, dangerous cliffs...
Ms. Y Hien, a resident of Tu Tho commune, Tu Mo Rong district - said: "Most houses in the area are located close to the mountainside, near the road, the ground is mushy and soaks with water during the rainy season. Several heavy rains washed away soil and rocks, making it difficult for people to eat and sleep well."
Also related to this issue, a representative of the Traffic Police Department, Dak Lak Provincial Police informed that the Ho Chi Minh route passing through the province has many steep slopes, dangerous curves, plus the appearance of fog. Dense fog causes traffic safety during the rainy and stormy season.
Potential areas at risk of traffic accidents include sections passing through Cu Ne commune, Krong Buk district; Chu Kpo pass, Buon Ho town bypass. In particular, the section from Km1705 - Km1712 is an area with many perennial pine trees, whose branches stretch out over the road, obscuring visibility and risk falling during the rainy season.
In Dak Nong, on National Highway 14 (Ho Chi Minh Road) passing through Nghia Thanh ward, Gia Nghia city, there was also a serious subsidence incident (August 2023). In the landslide area, widespread faults appeared and subsidence was 1 - 3 meters deep.
In the main lane, the asphalt concrete road surface has cracks and subsidence with a total length of about more than 127m. Regarding this incident, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province announced a natural disaster emergency. However, up to this point, the serious subsidence incident on Highway 14 has not been resolved to ensure the passage of vehicles.
