Determined to rectify violations at key intersections
At the intersection of Tran Duy Hung - Hoang Minh Giam (Cau Giay district), morning rush hour always has a very high traffic density, especially in the direction from Thang Long Boulevard to Tran Duy Hung.
However, with the presence of the Traffic Police, as well as grassroots units such as Ward and District Police, and Traffic Inspectors participating in coordinating their duties, traffic is smooth, and violations such as running red lights and crossing the road are thoroughly handled.
The above intersection is among more than 20 intersections piloting the "Traffic Safety Intersection" model of Hanoi City Police.

According to the Commander of Traffic Police Team No. 6 (Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police), the determination of the traffic police force in recent times has begun to bring positive results. People are gradually forming the habit of obeying traffic laws, stopping at the right line, giving way to pedestrians, not encroaching on lanes or violating traffic signals.
From now until the Lunar New Year 2025, the Hanoi Traffic Police Department directs units to continue to increase forces to maintain the "Traffic Safety Intersection" model, and specifically inspect and evaluate its effectiveness.
At the same time, the Hanoi Traffic Police Department also recommended that the Department of Transport supplement, repair, and install road signaling systems such as signs, road markings, etc. to ensure clarity and compliance with regulations, making it easy for people to implement.
Big challenge
According to the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, one of the major challenges that the authorities face in the process of controlling and handling violations is the subjective mentality of traffic participants.
When fined, many people still give excuses, such as “the road was crowded”, “in a hurry for work” or “seeing others violating the law, so I followed suit”. These behaviors not only obstruct traffic and pose a potential risk of accidents, but also create an ugly image at major intersections in the capital.

"Instead of stopping at the red light line, many vehicles encroach on the middle of the intersection, blocking the pedestrian crossing. There are even cases of people going the wrong way to pass... People look at each other and then violate the law together, causing the intersections to become chaotic, especially when the authorities are not present.
Of course, all violations, when discovered, will be strictly handled," said Major Hoang Van Binh, Deputy Captain of Traffic Police Team No. 6.
During the process of handling violations, the authorities will combine propaganda to raise people's awareness when participating in traffic. When compliance with the law becomes a habit, the chaotic traffic situation will gradually improve, reducing congestion and accidents.

Notably, in just a few days, the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 will officially take effect (starting from January 1, 2025). In particular, the Driver's License will have 12 points, and points will be deducted depending on the nature and severity of the violation of the law on road traffic order and safety.
In cases where drivers have lost all 12 points, they will not be allowed to drive on the road under that driving license.
After at least 6 months from the date of deduction of all points, the driver's license holder is allowed to participate in the test on legal knowledge on road traffic order and safety as prescribed in Clause 7, Article 61 of this Law organized by the Traffic Police force. If the result is satisfactory, the full 12 points will be restored.
This is considered an effective measure to help raise awareness of traffic law compliance of each citizen.
