Recently, prolonged heavy rains have caused many irrigation dams in Thai Nguyen to be at risk of insecurity.
Some works have seriously degraded, directly affecting production and the lives of local people.
Among these, Ban Chang Lake in Ngan Son Commune has seen leaks in the dam body, damaged water discharge valves, and potential risks during the rainy and stormy season.
The Ban Chang Lake renovation project started in April 2025, including the construction of a new perifaring yard, flood drainage and auxiliary traffic roads.
Although the weather has been raining heavily and causing prolonged interruptions in construction, the project progress is still guaranteed, expected to reach 70% of the volume this year.
Along with Ban Chang, Thai Nguyen province has allocated 133 billion VND from the central budget to repair and upgrade 5 more reservoirs in the northern communes, including Na Quanh, Na Lang, Na Kien and Pac Nghien.
At the same time, the whole province is simultaneously implementing 11 projects to upgrade dams, while inspecting and maintaining reservoirs in operation.
Many vulnerable items have been repaired to ensure safe operation, maintain irrigation and domestic water supply.
These are projects that are assessed as urgent to ensure safety during the rainy season and serve agricultural production.

In the Northern area, Bac Kan Irrigation Works Management One Member Co., Ltd. manages 263 projects. Of which, 30 reservoirs have completed reviewing and classifying safety levels to proactively respond to floods.
Mr. Be Ngoc Hung - Director of the company - said that when there is a flood, employees are assigned to be on duty 24/7 at large lakes and dams.
Small damages such as landslides and peeling canals have been urgently repaired, not allowing the project to be interrupted or affected.
Spending more than 133 billion VND to repair dams not only helps reduce the risk of dam failure but also helps stabilize agricultural production and the lives of people downstream.
