On December 31, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leadership of Xuan Tin Commune People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province, said that about 3 months ago, due to the impact of storm No. 10, water from the upstream of the Cau Chay River rose, almost completely sweeping away the Mo bridge, leaving 548 households with 2,372 people isolated.

Previously, the bridge was a vital traffic route serving people's travel in 4 villages in the commune. When the bridge was swept away, people's lives were seriously affected, especially travel to the commune center; students faced many difficulties when going to school due to having to travel on a long roundabout road, posing a potential risk of unsafety" - a representative of Xuan Tin Commune People's Committee informed.
Also according to this representative, immediately after the bridge collapsed, the locality focused on temporarily overcoming landslide areas with gabions, soil overflow protection, tarpaulins to limit erosion; and at the same time, stretched ropes, erected barriers, and planted warning signs to ensure safety for people.
Mo Bridge was built in 2017, about 100m long, 4m wide, is the main connecting route between Xuan Tin commune and many residential areas and rice and crop production areas of people on both sides of the river.
Faced with the above situation, the commune has sent reports to functional sectors and Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, proposing to soon have a plan to overcome and handle it to meet the travel needs of the people. Up to now, the Provincial People's Committee has approved the investment fund for the construction of the new Mo bridge" - a representative of Xuan Tin Commune People's Committee said.
According to the approval, the new Mo bridge is built at the location where the old bridge collapsed, with a level III bridge scale, including 5 spans, 183.4m long, 8m wide bridge surface; reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete structure.
The road at both ends of the bridge is about 0.7km long, meeting the standard of a level V plain road. The project is invested by the Thanh Hoa Traffic Works Investment Project Management Board, with a total investment of 70 billion VND.
The project implementation time is up to the third quarter of 2026; Mo bridge must be technically opened to traffic before July 1, 2026. To ensure the above progress, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee requests the investor and relevant departments, branches, and localities to organize the project implementation, ensuring progress, quality and efficiency of the project.
We hope the bridge will be constructed soon and completed on schedule, meeting the urgent travel needs of hundreds of households not only in Xuan Tin commune but also in neighboring localities" - a resident expressed.
