On August 13, Phu Trach Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) said that Phu Trach Commune Police had just organized forces to remove obstacles arbitrarily erected by people on two concrete roads in Nam Lanh village.
According to Phu Trach Commune People's Committee, obstacles including concrete blocks and barriers were erected by people to prevent cars from entering the road in the village to avoid the BOT toll station on National Highway 1 through the area, limiting the situation of vehicles damaging concrete roads.
In some locations, people erect barriers across the road at low altitudes, obstructing car traffic. These obstacles have existed for many years.
Local authorities said that the dismantling is to ensure that the roads in the village can serve rescue vehicles in dangerous and emergency situations. When an incident occurs, fire trucks, ambulances and vehicles on duty need to have a traffic route to access the scene.
Before organizing the dismantling, Phu Trach commune authorities widely announced to the people. However, no individual stood up to claim ownership of the above obstacles.
Phu Trach Commune People's Committee also informed people about the risk of unsafety and inadequacies from arbitrarily placing concrete blocks and barriers to block roads, especially in cases of incidents requiring emergency vehicles to approach residential areas.
