Hanoi City is promoting the roadmap for converting public transport vehicles towards modernity, environmental friendliness, gradually improving service quality and reducing urban air pollution.
On the morning of April 17, information from the Hanoi Public Transport Management Center (Tramoc) said that from April 18, 2026, Hanoi will put 53 more electric buses into operation on routes 16, 24 and 29.
This number of vehicles belongs to the Project to strengthen sustainable urban transport for Hanoi urban railway line No. 3. As a result, the total number of electric and green-energy buses throughout the network to date has reached 699 vehicles, including 560 electric vehicles and 139 CNG-using vehicles, accounting for 35.8% of the total number of subsidized buses.
According to the plan, by the end of April 30, 2026, Hanoi will continue to put into operation 122 more electric buses on 8 routes. At that time, the total number of vehicles using electricity and green energy is expected to reach 821 vehicles, including 682 electric buses and 139 CNG gas vehicles, accounting for 42.1% of the total number of vehicles.

According to Tramoc, by the end of 2026, Hanoi City is expected to invest in replacing 30 more electric buses on 2 routes, bringing the total number of green vehicles to 851 vehicles (712 electric buses and 139 CNG vehicles), accounting for about 43.6% of the entire network.
This result exceeds the target set out in Plan No. 149/KH-UBND dated May 28, 2025 of the City People's Committee on developing a public transport system by electric and green-energy buses (from 20-23%), showing Hanoi's determination in developing a sustainable public transport system.
The rapid increase in the number of electric buses and vehicles using clean energy not only contributes to improving air quality but also creates a premise for building green, civilized and modern cities.
