On August 30, leaders of Hue Water Supply Joint Stock Company (HueWACO) said that intense heat, lasting in 2026, has increased water demand, while water sources in streams and creeks in Hue City have seriously decreased, affecting the ability to safely supply water to people.
In the Chan May - Lang Co area, as of August 29, the water flow from Bau Ghe and Khe Me was only about 6,120m3/day and night, down 51% compared to the licensed exploitation capacity of the Chan May Water Plant and continuing to tend to decrease.
Although it is supplemented with about 1,800m3/day and night from the Thua Luu stone mine water pit, pumped from Loc An Water Plant, the water source still does not meet the demand, expected to be short of about 34%, equivalent to more than 4,000m3/day and night.
Faced with this situation, the People's Committee of Chan May - Lang Co commune announced an emergency situation due to shortage and depletion of raw water sources of Chan May Water Plant, level 1.
Previously, on August 24, HueWACO leaders organized a field survey, assessed the situation and developed response plans according to each level of water source depletion.
The proposed solution is to urgently install a mobile water treatment station, exploit water from Thuy Yen Lake, along with a nearly 5km long pipeline system, with an expected capacity of 4,000m3/day and night.
By the afternoon of August 26, the People's Committee of Chan May - Lang Co commune allowed the exploitation of the water source of Thuy Yen lake.
Immediately after that, HueWACO mobilized more than 100 officials, engineers, workers and machinery and equipment; coordinated with units supplying materials, accessories, and chemicals to deploy construction.
The project is organized to be constructed continuously in 3 shifts, 4 teams, day and night, including a pumping station and a raw water pipeline, a treatment cluster, a pipeline and an overpressure pumping station to supply clean water.
By 8:00 PM on August 29, more than 3 days after being allowed to exploit the water source of Thuy Yen Lake, the first treatment cluster, with a capacity of 2,000m3/day and night, was completed and put into operation. Clean water was immediately supplied to the network to meet the essential needs of the people.
By 24:00 on the same day, the second treatment cluster, with a capacity of 2,000m3/day and night, was completed and clean water was supplied to the network. The entire project reached a capacity of 4,000m3/day and night, exceeding the schedule by nearly a day compared to the plan.
According to HueWACO, putting Thuy Yen water source into operation in a short time is to contribute to ensuring continuous domestic water sources for the people of Chan May - Lang Co in the context of declining crude water sources.
The unit said that the acceleration of progress is still being carried out in parallel with water quality control. Before the water source of Thuy Yen Lake is put into the network, the steps to control the quality of raw and treated water are carried out according to regulations.
