On November 10, Mr. Le Duc Tien - Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee - confirmed that at the end of October 2024, the Ministry of Transport had a working session with the leaders of Quang Tri province on investment and development of transport infrastructure in the province.
After the meeting, on November 6, the Ministry of Transport issued an announcement, agreeing with the proposal of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province on investing in the construction of a new Dakrong bridge to replace the old, degraded bridge.
The Ministry of Transport will synthesize and propose to competent authorities to consider investing in the project from the capital source of the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026 - 2030. In the immediate future, the Vietnam Road Administration will inspect and evaluate the exploitation capacity, propose solutions to ensure safety for people and vehicles to report to the Ministry of Transport.
Previously, as reported, in April 2024, the management unit of the Ho Chi Minh Highway West Branch, the Road Management Area II, discovered that the Dakrong suspension bridge at Km249+824 of the Ho Chi Minh Highway (Dakrong District, Quang Tri Province) had horizontal and vertical cracks at span 4 of the Dakrong Bridge. The asphalt concrete coating on span 2 appeared to have many cracks along the horizontal direction of the bridge and a crack extending from the lower left lane to the right lane with a width of 0.1-0.3mm.
When heavy trucks pass through the bridge, the bridge span structure vibrates strongly; the outermost cable-stayed cable to the south on span number 3 visibly stretches when a heavy truck passes by, causing the connection of a cable-stayed cable protection tube at span number 3 on the wrong side of the route to come loose.
Dakrong Bridge is located on the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Highway, a vital route connecting La Lay International Border Gate with National Highway 9, Quang Tri Province, welcoming many heavy-duty vehicles every day.
Ensuring traffic safety and order and protecting the structure of the Ho Chi Minh Highway West branch is very urgent, so the People's Committee of Quang Tri province proposed a plan to regulate traffic and invest in building a new bridge to ensure safety.
