On the morning of February 2nd, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) officially opened the HC1-02 underpass item. This is an important piece of the An Phu traffic intersection project, helping to relieve vehicle pressure between the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and Mai Chi Tho road.

The HC1-02 underpass belongs to package XL6 with a value of more than 342.5 billion VND. The project started on February 15, 2023, and after nearly 3 years of urgent construction, it officially completed on schedule on February 2, 2026.
According to the design, the HC1-02 underpass has a total length of about 480.4 m (of which the closed tunnel part is more than 140 m long, the open tunnel is more than 340 m long). The tunnel has its starting point adjacent to the beginning of Ba Dat bridge, and the ending point on Mai Chi Tho street (towards the Saigon River tunnel, adjacent to the HC1-01 tunnel access road).
The project has a 2-way cross-section, 2 lanes in each direction, design speed of 50 km/h. Inside the tunnel, it is fully equipped with a synchronous pumping station, drainage, lighting and fire prevention and fighting system.

Putting the HC1-02 underpass into operation helps directly connect traffic from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway to Mai Chi Tho street and vice versa, eliminating traffic conflicts at intersections, creating ventilation for the eastern gateway of the city.
Representatives of the Traffic Board said that An Phu intersection is a project with a total investment of more than 3,400 billion VND. To date, the project has completed many important items including: HC1-01 underpass (Bailment Package XL5), HC1-02 underpass (Bailment Package XL6), Ba Dat Bridge (XL7), Giong Ong To Bridge (XL8) and N2 Bridge (XL11).
Regarding the progress of the remaining items, the investor is committed to focusing on construction to complete the N3 bridge branch by April 30, 2026; the N4, N1.1 and N1.3 bridge branches are expected to be completed by June 30, 2026. The N1.2 bridge branch is expected to be completed in October 2026 (depending on the progress of site handover on Luong Dinh Cua street side in the first quarter of 2026).

When fully completed in 2026, An Phu intersection will become the most modern traffic intersection in Ho Chi Minh City, fundamentally solving the congestion problem at the beginning of the expressway and the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong arterial road.
