Under the scorching sun of late April and early May, the construction atmosphere at the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project site is still bustling and urgent. At construction package No. 2, component project 3 (Can Tho section), groups of workers are diligently pouring concrete and constructing bridges and culverts during the April 30th and May 1st holidays.
Many workers determined to "take leave on the construction site" to contribute to bringing the project to completion on schedule. Mr. Duong Van Thang - a construction worker - said that each day of overtime is shortening the completion time, helping the project serve people sooner.
“Brothers are determined to stick to the construction site for a long time, not only for holidays but also for Tet, weekends are also constructed throughout,” Mr. Thang said.
Nearly 900km from the construction site, Mr. Luong Van Ngan (from old Binh Dinh, now Gia Lai) said that he has not returned home for many months. The longing for his family is always present, but for him, the progress of the project is still put first.
My family always encourages me, so I feel secure working. During holidays, I have extra income, and my brothers and sisters also have the motivation to stick to the construction site," Mr. Ngan shared.
Mr. Ngan also said that with a bonus of about 1 million VND/person/day during the holidays, it not only improves income but also adds motivation for them to stick with the construction site, strive to complete tasks, and contribute to bringing the project to completion on schedule.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ho Thanh Hong - a mechanic - is somewhat more convenient because his house is near the construction site. Taking advantage of the break time, he can still visit his family.
According to him, increased income during holidays helps stabilize life, and at the same time creates more motivation to stick with work for a long time.
Representative of the contractor, Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, informed that the unit maintains construction throughout the holiday, mobilizing sufficient manpower and equipment to simultaneously deploy items. To ensure progress, in addition to wages according to regulations, each worker working during the holiday is supported with about 1 million VND/person/day, accompanied by a bonus mechanism according to output.
According to Mr. Toan, progress is a key factor, but along with that, it is necessary to ensure income, rights and working conditions so that workers can feel secure and attached. The unit sets a goal that by June 30, it will basically complete the sand filling and loading work in each segment, suitable to the material supply, and at the same time complete the loading and loading items twice.
The urgent construction atmosphere also took place at the starting point of the project in An Giang. Mr. Tran Minh Thanh - Deputy Head of Truong Son 11 Management Board - said that the entire force from commanding officers, engineers to workers stayed at the construction site to work throughout the holiday. Meals and salaries are fully guaranteed to encourage workers.

As one of the horizontal traffic axis projects of strategic significance for the Mekong Delta region, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway when completed will contribute to completing the infrastructure network, promoting socio-economic development, shortening travel time and opening up many new opportunities for people.
