Lao Cai - Thac Ba Hydropower Plant has just announced the closure of all spillways from 6:30 a.m. on October 7.

On October 7, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy General Director of Thac Ba Hydropower Company, said that in the Chay River basin of Thac Ba Lake last night (October 6), there was only moderate rain of 40mm, factories in upstream branches only emitted an average of 400-500 m3/s.

As of this morning, Thac Ba Hydropower Company has completely closed the floodgates. Currently, the water level is at a safe level, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong informed.

The leader of Thac Ba hydropower plant added that according to the forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the development of storm No. 11 in the next 2 days will be quite complicated.

Therefore, the Company continues to monitor the flood situation in the Chay River and Thac Ba Lake basin to take timely response measures, ensuring safe operation of the Thac Ba hydropower plant as well as downstream.

Previously, on September 30, Thac Ba Hydropower Plant opened the floodgate through the spillway due to heavy rain, to ensure safety for the project and the downstream area.

In early October, due to heavy rain and the impact of storm No. 11, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment issued an urgent dispatch requesting Thac Ba Hydropower Plant to open floodgates to lower water levels before the storm makes landfall.
