HCMC - Regarding the fire at Asi Club bar in Ben Thanh ward, District 1, authorities initially determined the cause of the fire was welding sparks.

According to initial information, the fire broke out at around 1:25 p.m. on December 25, when a group of workers were welding iron bars to the ceiling beams to mount speakers.

During the operation, welding sparks hit the insulation and soundproofing foam on the ceiling, causing a fire. Although the workers immediately shouted for help and used hand-held fire extinguishers to put out the fire, they were unsuccessful.

Authorities have dispatched 15 fire trucks and 62 firefighters to the scene. About 300 meters of Ly Tu Trong Street, from the intersection of Nguyen Trung Truc and Thu Khoa Huan, has been blocked off to help put out the fire.

According to authorities, because the bar has an entrance more than one meter wide, and there are two fashion shops next to it, it was difficult to get inside. Police had to set up a ladder and remove the roof to reach the source of the fire. After that, firefighters continued to use water hoses to cool it down and prevent the fire from spreading.

In addition to the District 1 fire fighting force, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department also sent a special elite force with robots and smoke extractors to the scene to handle the fire. At around 3:28 p.m., the fire was completely controlled. The fire did not cause any casualties but burned many tables, chairs, and soundproof foam.

In the fire, the authorities also rescued 4 people to safety. Their health is now stable.
