On July 23, a clip appeared on Facebook recording a suspected scene of dead pigs floating on the Nhat Le River through Dong Hoi Ward (Quang Tri), attracting many shares and comments about the risk of environmental pollution and unsanitary epidemics.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province said that they had received the feedback and coordinated with local authorities to verify the scene and clarify the origin of the incident to take timely measures.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, a livestream clip was circulated on Facebook recording images of what is believed to be many dead pigs dumped in a stream in Phong Nha Commune (Quang Tri). The livestream performer said that many pigs were discovered while passing through the area.
After receiving the report, Phong Nha commune authorities came to inspect and no longer discovered the pigs in village 8 because they had been buried there before. The People's Committee of Phong Nha commune affirmed that the act of throwing animal carcasses into the stream is a serious violation, requiring villages to increase propaganda and will strictly punish if discovered.
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province, as of 5:00 p.m. on July 20, the whole province had 16 communes with African swine fever with a total of pigs infected with the disease, forcing the destruction of more than 4,600 pigs.
