Support arrives early for re-breeding
The African pig cholera epidemic broke out strongly from July to December 2025, causing heavy damage to farmers in Quang Ngai province. The whole province had more than 49,000 pigs forced to be destroyed (equivalent to about 2,000 tons of live meat), causing many households to fall into poverty.
On September 24, 2025, at the 4th session of the 13th Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council, term 2021 - 2026, the Provincial People's Council passed a resolution stipulating the level of support for overcoming animal diseases in the area.
According to the resolution, the support level for livestock establishments is specified as follows: Buffaloes, cows, horses, goats are supported with 50,000 VND/kg of live weight; sheep, giraffes 55,000 VND/kg; pigs 40,000 VND/kg; poultry (chickens, ducks, geese, geese, pigeons) 35,000 VND/kg. People participating in epidemic prevention and control who do not receive budget salaries are supported with 400,000 VND/day normal, 500,000 VND/day holiday, Tet; people receiving budget salaries are supported with 150,000 VND/day normal, 300,000 VND/day holiday, Tet.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Pham Tan Phuoc - Vice Chairman of Truong Quang Trong Ward People's Committee - said that on January 11, 2025, the ward spent more than 3.6 billion VND from contingency funds to support livestock facilities damaged by epidemics. Households receiving the highest support are over 152 million VND, the lowest is 2 million VND. However, the locality still needs an additional 685 million VND to continue supporting the remaining households, so it has requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Finance to summarize and advise the Provincial People's Committee to consider and decide.
Ms. Le Thi Thinh (group 3, Hoa Binh village, Truong Quang Trong ward) shared: "I was supported by the ward with nearly 14 million VND, I am very happy. With money, I will buy pigs to continue raising and cover expenses during the upcoming Binh Ngo Lunar New Year.
In Dong Son commune, Mr. Phan Dinh Chi - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee - said that in 2025, epidemics such as African swine fever, avian flu, and cutaneous rash on cows caused damage to people of over 3.4 billion VND. The locality has used all contingency funds of over 3.1 billion VND to support people.
The People's Committee of Dong Son commune has also proposed to the Provincial People's Committee to consider supporting more than 326 million VND for affected households according to regulations, and at the same time supporting the reimbursement of the commune's budget expenditure" - Mr. Chi said.
Many places are waiting wearily
Besides localities proactively supporting, in many other communes and wards, although the epidemic has passed for more than 3 months, people are still weary of waiting for support funds.
According to the report of Nghia Hanh commune, the recent epidemic caused more than 7,700 pigs (equivalent to 467 tons) to be destroyed, affecting about 1,000 households.
The total amount of support is estimated at more than 18.5 billion VND. This is a very large number, exceeding the local budget balance capacity, so the commune is forced to wait for higher levels to allocate it," said the leader of Nghia Hanh commune. Similarly, in Son Ha and Tu Nghia communes... local authorities have also made detailed reports on damage and are waiting for the province to allocate funds to pay people.
Representatives of the Department of Finance of Quang Ngai province said that the unit is waiting for a summary report from localities to calculate support plans.
In the support funds, there is a part from the Central Government and localities, so complete and detailed data is needed to serve as a basis for implementation," said a representative of the Department of Finance.
