Shark's Den Building officially demolished

Hanoi - On the evening of June 19, some machines were brought to the Shark Dock building, address 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang (Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi) to implement the demolition of this project.

Talking to Lao Dong, a person on duty at the scene said that the work of ensuring safety to serve the demolition of the Shark's Den building has been basically completed.

"We will start demolition and demolition of the project from tomorrow. It is expected to take about 20 days to clean up the scene," said the person.

Previously, from May 25, a 6m high fence was erected around the Shark Embankment to ensure safety for people traveling during the demolition of the project.

The Shark Ham Building was built from 1991 - 1993, facing Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and Hoan Kiem Lake, adjacent to Cau Go Street.

The building has 6 floors, of which the 2nd to the 5th floor are restaurants and cafes, the 6th floor has a panoramic view of Hoan Kiem Lake.

According to the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District, with the permission of Hanoi City, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District has studied a plan to renovate and embellish Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square in the wards of Hang Trong, Hang Gai, Hang Bac and Ly Thai To.

This is the connection point of 2 heritage urban areas including Hoan Kiem Lake - Ngoc Son Temple in the South (special National Monument) and the Old Quarter in the North (National Monument). The research and planning were carefully implemented and consulted with ministries, the Hanoi Architecture Council... by the Hanoi Institute of Construction Planning as a basis before implementation.

Hoan Kiem District said that the renovation and embellishment of Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, including the demolition of building 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang, will be carried out first. In the past time, Hoan Kiem District has coordinated with the city's departments and branches to study and develop a plan and report to the City for approval of the investment policy in 2 periods:

Phase 1 includes 5 contents:

- lowering the building of the 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang Commercial Center.

- Moving the existing transformer station inside the first floor of the 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang project of Hoan Kiem Electricity on Cau Go Street.

- attention to hapro building (No. 7-9 Dinh Tien Hoang). Montage the roofs, spans, signs, and vertical surfaces of works around the square on Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Cau Go Street, and Hang Dao Street.

- Red page of Thuy Toa restaurant.

- Reorganize traffic on Dinh Tien Hoang Street. Limit motor vehicles, promote space after demolition of project No. 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang and connect Dinh Tien Hoang street to deploy to become a public space associated with services to support tourism in the capital.

The above contents will be implemented in May 2025 and ended in August 2025.

Phase 2, including: Research on solutions to develop the underground space of the square; continue to renovate the first layer of houses on the street around the square; renovate the overall technical infrastructure to match the operation of Hoan Kiem Lake as a special national monument; add urban equipment suitable for the operational functions of the area.

With the above workload of the first phase, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District is coordinating with the city's departments and branches to urgently complete the procedures according to the provisions of law.
