On the evening of February 2, the Traffic Police of Tien Giang province regulated the flow of people from the Western region returning to Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast provinces to work.
Ring Road 3, Hanoi's inner city streets are clear
At nearly 8 p.m., there was no traffic congestion on the Ring Road 3 through the center of Hanoi in either direction. Traffic flowed smoothly, unlike the usual congestion on this highway.
At some major intersections such as Thanh Xuan, Nga Tu So, Big C Thang Long… and main roads such as Nguyen Trai, Khuat Duy Tien, Lang… the traffic density is not too crowded. Most people obey traffic lights and instructions from the authorities.
Traffic jam over 10km on National Highway 20
Dong Nai - After the Lunar New Year holiday (February 2), the flow of vehicles from the provinces to Ho Chi Minh City was crowded, causing congestion lasting many kilometers on National Highway 20.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, from 5 p.m. on the last day of Tet holiday (February 2), on National Highway 20, passing through many areas such as Tan Phu, Dinh Quan, Trang Bom districts and Bien Hoa city, the flow of vehicles from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City was crowded. People brought their belongings back to Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces to study and work.
At some sections, passenger vans and cars lined up in two rows, one behind the other, stretching along the road.
Mr. Chu Quoc Viet (residing in Tan Phu district) said that every year when traveling to Ho Chi Minh City during Tet, he encounters long traffic jams on National Highway 20.
"Normally, it takes me about 3 hours to travel by motorbike from Tan Phu to Ho Chi Minh City, but on holidays and Tet, if I can't leave earlier, the time doubles. Traffic jams make the journey back to Ho Chi Minh City extremely tiring," said Mr. Quoc Viet.
Mr. Do Van Hai - driver of the Dong Nai - Ho Chi Minh City route said that during Tet, people's travel needs increase, so traffic jams are inevitable.
"I just traveled on Highway 20 and it's already jammed for so long. I don't know what will happen when I get to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway. I predict it will take another 5 hours to get back to Ho Chi Minh City," Mr. Hai said in frustration.
By 6 p.m., the volume of vehicles traveling on National Highway 20 to Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces was even more crowded.
Hai Van Pass overloaded
On February 2, the number of vehicles increased dramatically after the Tet holiday, causing Hai Van Pass to be overloaded.
On January 5 (February 2), thousands of workers and laborers from the northern and central provinces, mainly Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien Hue, crossed Hai Van Pass to Da Nang by motorbike to prepare for the first working day.
Despite the Hai Van Tunnel as an alternative, many people still travel through the pass. Traffic jam hotspots are concentrated at the top of the pass, especially the section before the Hai Van Quan relic. Cars and motorbikes line up for more than 1km, creating a crowded "sea of people, sea of vehicles" scene. Traveling becomes extremely difficult and time-consuming.
The Hoa Hiep Gate Traffic Police Station and the Hoa Nhon Gate Traffic Police Station (Traffic Police Department of Da Nang City Police) had to coordinate with local police to organize patrols and controls to promptly detect and prevent prolonged traffic jams, expel illegal parking cases, and prevent and stop cases of young people weaving along the Hai Van Pass.

Hanoi: Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway is congested for 3km, making traffic difficult
At nearly 6 p.m., on the Phap Van - Cau Gie highway (the southern gateway to Hanoi), a line of cars about 3 kilometers long was jammed towards the city center. Local congestion sometimes occurred due to the sudden increase in the number of vehicles.
Traffic police and other forces must increase traffic flow and guidance to avoid congestion between the straight and turning lanes onto Ring Road 3.
On average, it takes nearly 30 minutes for vehicles to escape the 3km traffic jam on Phap Van Expressway to enter Ring Road 3.
On National Highway 1A, through Thanh Tri and Hoang Mai districts, the number of people and vehicles tends to increase rapidly as the evening progresses. Many people drive motorbikes carrying their belongings back to the city after the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday.
Therefore, to avoid congestion at the intersection of Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway and Ring Road 3, many drivers have proactively chosen alternative routes.

In the inner city, the forces on duty at key checkpoints coordinate with the Traffic Inspectorate to both organize and regulate traffic, and control and handle violations such as carrying too many people, violating alcohol concentration and speed.
The surveillance camera system is fully exploited, playing an important role in monitoring the actual situation on the roads, early detection of congestion and incidents to have timely adjustment plans, and at the same time recording and strictly handling violations of traffic safety and order.
Traffic police recommend that people returning to the city must comply with traffic regulations, choose appropriate routes, not drink alcohol while driving, and check their vehicles before departure to ensure safety.
To avoid traffic jams, many people in the West choose the country road to return to the city.
To avoid traffic jams, people in the West have traveled through rural roads to return to Ho Chi Minh City to work after Tet.
Da Nang: Traffic jam at southern gateway after Lunar New Year holiday
On the afternoon of February 2, thousands of vehicles poured into Da Nang after the holiday, causing serious congestion at the southern gateways of the city.
National Highway 1A, passing through Hoa Phuoc Commune (Hoa Vang District, Da Nang) and Dien Ban Town (Quang Nam Province), is currently severely congested. The line of vehicles stretches for kilometers, moving sluggishly. This is also the nightmare of many workers and laborers after the holiday.
The sudden increase in the number of vehicles, mainly private cars, buses and motorbikes, has created a chaotic traffic picture. Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh Ly, a worker at a school in Da Nang City, shared: "Every year, after Tet, I am afraid of this traffic jam. I rode my motorbike from my hometown in Quang Nam, it took me more than 3 hours for a journey that normally only takes 2 hours."
Similarly, Ms. Vo Thi My Le, who works at an electronic components factory in Hoa Cam Industrial Park (Cam Le District, Da Nang City), also expressed her frustration: "We have to return to the factory to work tomorrow, so our family had to return to Da Nang early this afternoon. However, when we got there, we were stuck in traffic for more than 30 minutes."
The traffic jam lasted from about 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on February 1 and early February 2, causing difficulties for traffic participants traveling between Da Nang and Quang Nam, as well as neighboring provinces. The main cause of the traffic jam is believed to be people returning to Da Nang from the southern provinces. In particular, a large number of workers and laborers returning to the city after the holiday also increased traffic pressure. Many people are advised to monitor traffic conditions, choose appropriate routes, and follow the instructions of the authorities to avoid traffic jams when traveling through the Da Nang - Quang Nam border area.
Lam Dong: Long sea of cars safely leaves Da Lat after Tet holiday
On the morning of the 5th day of Tet (February 2), tourists began to leave Da Lat and tourist destinations in Lam Dong. Records on National Highway 20, from Di Linh to Da Huoai, showed that traffic towards Ho Chi Minh City was busier and more crowded than usual.
Thousands of vehicles lined up to leave Da Lat and other localities in the province after the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday.
At the beginning of Bao Loc Pass, the Traffic Police force of Madaguoi Station (Traffic Police Department of Lam Dong Province Police) set up a checkpoint to check speed, alcohol concentration and instruct vehicles to comply with traffic safety, especially not to encroach on lanes or recklessly overtake when passing through the pass.
Local traffic police also increased patrols and controls during rush hours, and encouraged people to follow the motto "Don't drive after drinking alcohol".
Thanks to good compliance, vehicles on Highway 20 move in accordance with regulations, with very few violations. Despite heavy traffic, the route remains smooth and there is no congestion.
According to Madaguoi Traffic Police Station, from morning to afternoon of the 5th day of Tet, the Traffic Police force penalized 18 cases of cars and motorbikes violating speed limits.
During the day, on National Highway 20 from Di Linh to Da Huoai, no traffic accidents were recorded.
Ha Nam: Long traffic jam on National Highway 1A
Binh Thuan: Temporarily close some highway entrances
As of the afternoon of February 2, the entrance to Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway at Ba Bau intersection (Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan province), the entrance to Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway at Vinh Hao intersection (Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan) were still temporarily closed and traffic police were regulating traffic on National Highway 1 through Binh Thuan.
Entrances to Phan Thiet - Dau Giay and Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressways at other intersections are also continuously opened and closed to regulate traffic.
At the intersection between the access road to Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway and Km1717 National Highway 1, there was a traffic police station blocking and guiding vehicles to go straight on National Highway 1.
Right at the entrance to Phan Thiet - Dau Giay highway at Ba Bau intersection, there continues to be a traffic police team and a road patrol unit placing signs, instructing vehicles to turn around and not enter the highway.
At this time, traffic from the Central provinces returning to Ho Chi Minh City after the Tet holiday is crowded, so the traffic police have continuously closed and opened the entrances to the highway at some locations to reduce traffic on the highway. When the highway is clear, the intersections are opened for traffic to flow.
Due to the large number of cars traveling on National Highway 1, there is a situation of cars lining up for a long time and moving slowly through Ham Thuan Nam and Ham Tan districts, Binh Thuan province.
