On May 27, French President Emmanuel Macron, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and senior leaders of the two countries France and Vietnam pressed the button to start construction of the largest and most modern VNVC Vaccine and Food Factory in Vietnam.

The above event took place within the framework of the State visit to Vietnam from 25-27 May, by French President Emmanuel Macron. Just one day before, French President Emmanuel Macron and President Luong Cuong witnessed VNVC Vaccine Company and Sanofi Group (France) hand over cooperation documents on vaccine production technology transfer.

The groundbreaking of the VNVC Vaccine and Biological Factory is an important milestone in realizing the comprehensive strategic partnership between France and Vietnam in the fields of healthcare and biotechnology, which is expected to make a practical contribution to the common achievements of the two countries in the fields of healthcare and health care.

This event demonstrates VNVC's strong determination to proactively expand international cooperation, approach and gradually master modern biomedical technologies, and proactively produce high-tech vaccines. Thereby, VNVC contributes to improving preventive health capacity, ensuring national health security against the challenges of dangerous infectious diseases and new pandemics that have been forecast in the future.

VNVC vaccine and biological factory has an initial investment of about VND 2,000 billion, built on an area of over 26,000 m² in Phu An Thanh Industrial Park, Ben Luc District, Long An Province. The factory is designed and operated according to the highest standards of European GMP EU manufacturing practice, the US GMP FDA and the WHO GMP of the World Health Organization. At the same time, the factory strictly meets good practical standards in the laboratory (GLP) and international standards (AAAlAC) on safety, welfare and humanitarian treatment for the experimental animal research area, in accordance with the principle of international scientific ethics and many other advanced standards on environmental protection, reducing emissions, compliance with construction technology "Green Factory", "Smart factory".

It is expected that when put into operation at the end of 2027, the factory will gradually produce important, high-quality vaccines of Sanofi (France), thereby fully meeting the large quantity of high-quality, low-cost "Made in Vietnam" vaccines for the domestic market and aiming to export to countries in the region. Important vaccines, good quality and safe, with high demand to protect the health of children and adults will be the first products to be prioritized for transferring production technology from Sanofi.

Attending the event, Mr. Burak Pekmezci, General Director of Sanofi Vietnam, expressed his joy and pride when witnessing the groundbreaking ceremony of the VNVC Vaccine and Biological Factory. Sanofi expects VNVC's factory to soon provide vaccines, advanced drugs and effective disease prevention solutions to serve Vietnamese people and patients. This will be a breakthrough project, a vaccine factory that meets global standards, contributing to the increasingly better implementation of the mission of protecting the health of Vietnamese people, said Mr. Burak Pekmezci.

Mr. Ngo Chi Dung - Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of VNVC Vaccine Company - said that the Covid-19 pandemic has made countries realize the need to have modern vaccine factories with large capacity to be able to research and develop, transfer technology, quickly produce a large number of vaccines to serve domestic epidemic prevention needs, as well as contribute to the global supply chain.

Having a factory with a large capacity of hundreds of millions of doses per year of high-quality Made in Vietnam vaccines will help reduce costs and proactively supply people in the country, even for export. From there, people have access to new generation vaccines, effective and safe like people in advanced countries in the world. This also helps people get vaccinated with enough doses and on schedule, contributing to disease prevention, reducing the burden of medical examination and treatment for people, and at the same time helping them improve their health in accordance with the current policy of our Party and State.

The factory also invests in modern machinery and equipment infrastructure and has special policies to attract high-quality human resources in the world in the fields of scientific research, vaccine production and high-tech pharmaceutical products, thereby being ready to receive and master advanced biomedical technologies, such as mRNA technology applied in the production of many new vaccines, especially expected as cancer treatment vaccines, Mr. Ngo Chi Dung emphasized.

The VNVC Vaccine and Biological Factory was designed by the prestigious global corporation Rieckermann (Germany). All equipment is officially imported, new generation from Germany, USA...

The plant has a capacity of up to 100 million doses of vaccine per year, initially with three modern allocation and packaging lines, including advanced isolator technology and the first penalty shootout line in Southeast Asia, ensuring high quality and safety according to global standards.

Not only focusing on production, the factory also invests in building a 1,500 m2 Research and Development (R&D) Center, specializing in research and application of vaccine and biological product production technologies, especially mRNA vaccines. The center plans to cooperate with scientists, universities, and global pharmaceutical companies to conduct pre-clinical and clinical trials right in Vietnam. This helps Vietnam have the opportunity to access invented drugs and new vaccines in the world early, while meeting standards to shorten product licensing registration time to soon serve the people.

The groundbreaking of the VNVC Vaccine and Biological Factory is a step to concretize the major orientations of the Party and State, implementing Resolution 57 dated December 22, 2024 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution 59 dated January 24, 2025 on international integration in the new situation and Resolution 68 dated May 4, 2025 on private economic development.

For VNVC, this is a strong transformation from the leading vaccination and import system in the country, becoming the first large-scale international quality vaccine manufacturer in Vietnam. The event also laid the foundation for VNVC to become a leading modern vaccine R&D and production center in the world, contributing to technological autonomy and raising Vietnam's healthcare level to the world level.
