Ho Chi Minh City spends 45 billion VND to install lights in more than 500 alleys in 11 wards

MINH QUÂN |

Ho Chi Minh City - More than 500 alleys with a total length of about 64.3 km in 11 wards will be installed with 3,104 sets of LED lights, with a total investment of 45 billion VND.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a decision on investment policy for the project to renovate and convert the civil lighting system to urban lighting systems in 11 wards in the area.

The project is invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, implemented in wards including: Tan Son Hoa, Tan Son Nhat, Tan Hoa, Bay Hien, Tan Binh, Tan Son, Gia Dinh, Binh Thanh, Binh Loi Trung, Thanh My Tay and Binh Quoi.

According to the decision, the investment aims to build a lighting system that meets specialized technical standards, synchronous with the city's public lighting system.

The project contributes to improving the living environment, ensuring traffic safety, security and order, and reducing the risk of fire and explosion, and electrical unsafety in residential areas.

532 alleys with a total length of about 64.3 km will be renovated and installed with 3,104 sets of lighting. In which, priority is given to using energy-saving LED lighting technology to reduce the load on the power system during peak hours.

The total investment of the project is about 45 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget, the expected implementation time is in the period 2026 - 2028.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Finance to preside over advising on capital allocation in accordance with the progress; the Department of Construction to monitor and supervise the implementation process.

Relevant departments and agencies coordinate to inspect and ensure that the project is implemented in accordance with regulations. The investor is fully responsible for organizing implementation according to the approved content.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, Ho Chi Minh City currently has tens of thousands of alley lights, including many types such as compact lights, incandescent lights... This system, although meeting temporary living needs, has many shortcomings.

The lights are directly connected to the power grid, without the system of measuring and calculating contracts according to capacity and turnaround time. The lighting quality is uneven, in some places there is excess light, in some places it is too dark, causing difficulties for travel, creating conditions for social evils to arise.

Manual light turns off and turns on, not the correct distance, pitch, power and shine, leading to low lighting efficiency, high power consumption, affecting the general power source, especially during peak hours.

This system lacks scientific management, is easily damaged, and repairs are slow. Lights are turned off and on individually, in many places they are still bright during the day, causing waste. Temporary hooking and wiring is unsightly for the urban landscape, posing a risk of fire and explosion and electrical safety.
