Ho Chi Minh City will reclaim land from 2,126 households in Binh Chanh and Binh Tan districts to implement the National Highway 1 expansion project, of which 517 households were cleared.

The project to upgrade and expand National Highway 1 (from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to the border of Long An province) has just been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for investment under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form.

The route is about 9.62 km long, expanded to 60 m with a scale of 10 to 12 lanes, including overpasses at intersections to ensure smooth traffic.

The main route design allows a maximum speed of 80 km/h with 6 - 8 lanes, while the parallel roads on both sides have a speed of 60 km/h with 4 lanes.

In Binh Chanh district, 27.62 hectares (including 8.06 hectares of residential land and 19.55 hectares of land for perennial crops) were reclaimed, affecting 1,996 households, of which 504 households were cleared.

In Binh Tan district, 1.56 hectares (including 1.02 hectares of residential land and 0.54 hectares of land for perennial crops) were reclaimed, affecting 130 households, with 13 households having to be completely cleared.

The total investment capital is more than VND 16,285 billion, divided into three component projects.

Component project 1: Compensation, support and resettlement in Binh Tan district is about 1,068 billion VND, using Ho Chi Minh City budget capital.

Component project 2: Compensation, support and resettlement in Binh Chanh district is about VND 8,543 billion, also using the city budget.

Component project 3: Construction of upgrading and expanding National Highway 1 under the BOT form with a total investment of about VND 6,674 billion (including interest of about VND 802 billion).

It is expected that from the second quarter to the third quarter of 2025, the project will complete the steps of preparing, appraising and approving the feasibility study report. The site clearance work will take place from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the fourth quarter of 2026.

The selection of investors and construction will start from the first quarter of 2026 and be completed in the first quarter of 2028.

After completion, National Highway 1 through Binh Chanh and Binh Tan districts will have a scale of 10 - 12 lanes, helping to reduce congestion at the western gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.

At the same time, the project will optimize the efficiency of key infrastructure routes such as the North - South Expressway, Ring Roads 2, 3 and 4, creating favorable conditions for the transportation of goods and passengers.
