HCMC - On the morning of March 29, the City People's Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 720m long pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River with a total investment of nearly 1,000 billion VND, expected to be completed on April 30, 2026.

The pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River is designed with inspiration from the shape of water coconut leaves - a tree species associated with the culture of the Southern river region.

The design has an impressive yet simple style, harmonious between traditional and modern elements, reflecting the dynamic development of Ho Chi Minh City.

The project has a total length of 720m and a width of 6 to 11m. In particular, the bridge has a main span across the river 187m long, with a clearance of 80x10m.

This is the first pedestrian bridge in Vietnam to apply a spatial steel arch structure - an advanced technical solution, helping the project become one of the most unique pedestrian bridges in the world.

The bridge is built with the starting point at Ben Bach Dang Park area (about 125m south of Me Linh Construction Site) and the end point at Riverside Park in Thu Thiem New Urban Area (intersection between Nguyen Thien Thanh and N14 streets).

The pedestrian bridge not only serves pedestrians but also has its own lane for bicycles. In addition, the bridge structure is designed to be strong enough to withstand the maximum load of an ambulance of 3 tons, ensuring safety in emergency situations.

Both sides of the bridge are spacious walkways for visitors to visit, relax, take photos, combined with flexible flexible detachable soft median strips. Thanks to that, the bridge can be used to organize community events, creating a unique cultural living space for people.

A modern lighting system, roofs, drainage systems and other utilities are also integrated to ensure maximum safety and comfort for users.

The total investment capital of the project is nearly 1,000 billion VND from the enterprise's sponsorship.

The project is expected to be completed and inaugurated on April 30, 2026. The bridge not only connects District 1 with Thu Duc City but also has architectural symbolic meaning, contributing to creating a landscape highlight for the city.

The Thu Thiem New Urban Area is gradually completing the traffic connection system with other areas of Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition to this pedestrian bridge, the area also has a bridge and tunnel system across the river such as: Thu Thiem bridge, Thu Thiem tunnel, Ba Son bridge (Thu Thiem 2) which have been put into operation.

In the future, Thu Thiem 3 and Thu Thiem 4 bridges will continue to be deployed to enhance the connection between the two banks of the Saigon River.
