On March 6, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction sent a document to the People's Committees of wards, communes, special zones and businesses that need to install charging stations and battery exchange cabinets for electric vehicles to coordinate guidance, create conditions and resolve installation dossiers.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the development of electricity charging infrastructure is a necessary step to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions before 2050.
This is also an important solution for Ho Chi Minh City to respond to climate change and promote the development of green transportation.
Currently, the demand for electric vehicles in Ho Chi Minh City, especially electric motorbikes, is increasing rapidly.
It is forecasted that by 2030, Ho Chi Minh City will have about 1.2 million electric motorbikes, leading to the need to develop more than 25,000 public charging pillars and battery exchange cabinets.
To meet this need, the Department of Construction requests the People's Committees of wards, communes, and special zones to promote propaganda to people, organizations and households about the policy of developing green vehicles and reducing emissions.
Thereby, mobilizing people to cooperate and create favorable conditions for businesses to invest in installing charging stations and battery exchange cabinets for electric vehicles within the affected area when the project operates and is exploited.
Local authorities are responsible for receiving and resolving dossiers requesting the installation of charging stations and battery exchange cabinets according to their authority. In case the project is under the simultaneous management of the Department of Construction and the People's Committees of wards and communes, the Department of Construction will be the agency in charge of receiving and processing dossiers of organizations and businesses.
The Department of Construction also requests localities to ensure that the installation and operation of charging stations and battery exchange cabinets must comply with regulations on temporary management and use of roads and sidewalks; not affecting urban order and traffic safety.
Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction announced 102 locations eligible to install electric motorbike battery exchange cabinets on sidewalks in wards and communes including: Saigon, Hoa Hung, Tan Hoa, Vuon Lai, Binh Hung Hoa, Dien Hong, An Lac, Tan Tao, Phu Tho Hoa, Phu Thanh, Tan Hung, Nha Be, Linh Xuan, Hiep Binh, Thu Duc and Cat Lai.
In 2026, Great Wealth Trading and Service Co., Ltd. and V-Green Global Charging Station Development Joint Stock Company plan to install 20,000 battery exchange cabinets in the city, creating an infrastructure platform to serve the process of converting vehicles to electricity.
