Many farmers in Ho Tram commune still lack electricity to serve production

Ho Chi Minh City - Many households in Ho Tram commune are living and cultivating on their land plots, but for many years there has been a shortage of electricity for irrigation of fields and gardens.

The rainy season cultivates, the dry season is abandoned

In the last days of August, in the agricultural production area of Group 1 (Ba Ria hamlet, Ho Tram commune, Ho Chi Minh City - before the merger, Group 1, Tan Ru hamlet, Phuoc Tan commune, Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), many hectares of agricultural land are growing well.

However, according to local people, such lush green fruit trees are only available in the rainy season. When the dry season comes, it will be different, 6 months of the sunny season, production faces many difficulties due to lack of electricity, leading to lack of water, and trees gradually wither.

Mr. Pham Ho (group 1, Ba Ria hamlet, Ho Tram commune) said that his family has lived and cultivated for many years on a land plot of about 5,000 m2, without grid electricity, to serve daily life, they have to rely on electricity from very far away, production still depends heavily on the weather.

You see, green trees are so good because it is the rainy season. In the dry season, the land is almost abandoned. Many-year-old trees also find it difficult to survive during peak heat when they are not watered. People here really hope to have electricity to serve daily life and irrigation," Mr. Ho shared.

According to Mr. Ho, to bring electricity to the production land area, it is necessary to go a fairly long distance of hundreds of meters, even kilometers. The erection of poles and wiring is also related to many land plots of surrounding households, so it is difficult for a single household to implement.

Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, a neighbor of Mr. Ho, said that his family has 7 sao of fruit trees, but for many years they have only harvested in the rainy season, and in the dry season there is not enough electricity to irrigate, so they only try to keep the trees from dying.

Currently, to have electricity, Mr. Binh pulls a wire line about 700 meters long, crossing the gardens of many other households. However, the wire line is weak and does not meet irrigation in the dry season, besides, the factor of electrical safety also worries Mr. Binh.

“I, like many farming households here, really need a stable grid electricity source right on the road to produce. Because currently using self-pulled power lines is very far and rudimentary, so it is also unsafe for people and livestock. With grid electricity, farmers' economies will be much better, even richer because they can put land into production all year round,” Mr. Binh shared.

The road has been opened but the electricity has not come

According to people, previously, traffic in some areas of Ba Ria hamlet was still difficult, and travel was mainly by small roads and trails.

In recent years, people have donated land, and the State has invested in road construction. Some routes have been paved with asphalt, and other sections are paved with stone, making travel and transportation of materials and agricultural products more convenient.

However, the road has been opened but the electricity has not kept up. People can bring machinery, seedlings, and fertilizers into the garden more conveniently than before, but there is still a shortage of electricity to serve irrigation pumping in the dry season.

According to records, the area of group 1, Ba Ria hamlet, Ho Tram commune is located near key traffic routes such as Suoi Rao - Phuoc Tan provincial road, provincial road 328.

On September 3, exchanging with Lao Dong about the shortage of electricity for production in Group 1, Ba Ria hamlet, Ho Tram commune, Mr. Nguyen Phu Vinh, Director of Dat Do Power Company said: "This area used to be quite far from the power grid, so power supply was still difficult. Over the past time, the electricity industry has implemented a number of grid upgrade projects to bring electricity to areas that are still lacking.

Regarding the reflection of people in Group 1, Ba Ria hamlet, the electricity sector will check the location and specific address to determine whether this area is included in this year's investment plan or not. If not, the electricity sector will consider including it in the 2027 investment plan, people can rest assured.

On the same day, September 3, sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper, Chairman of Ho Tram Commune People's Committee Nguyen Huu Loc said: "The electricity system in the commune has basically been covered, serving the living needs of the people. Some households living scattered in the fields and production land area still do not have electricity systems for living and irrigation due to the distance far from the existing power grid.

Also according to the Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, this area is mainly located in Tan Ru hamlet, Phuoc Tan commune, former Xuyen Moc district. Local authorities will conduct actual surveys to determine the needs, area and number of households that need to use electricity for living and production, thereby having a plan to invest in a suitable electricity system.

People can rest assured, in September this year, the locality will coordinate with the electricity sector to specifically survey the electricity demand of people to include in the 2027 electricity system investment plan, in order to serve living and production to develop the economy of people as well as the locality," Chairman of Ho Tram Commune People's Committee said.
