On January 16, at Van Lang Park (An Dong ward), the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Safety Board organized a launching ceremony to inspect and handle the situation of encroachment and illegal use of roads and sidewalks; re-establish public order, urban order and general review and handling of illegal transport business activities in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong emphasized that the launch shows the unity and high determination of the entire political system in restoring public order, urban order and ensuring traffic safety and order in the city.

According to Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong, the organization of the campaign is not only aimed at handling short-term violations but also towards improving the responsibility of state management agencies, the role of heads of government at all levels; at the same time, contributing to raising awareness and self-awareness of law compliance of people, building a traffic environment of order, safety, and civilization.

Over the past time, Ho Chi Minh City Police have coordinated with units and localities to strengthen propaganda, patrol, control and handle violations. Although there have been positive changes, the situation of encroachment on roads and sidewalks in some places is still recurring, causing public outrage.
From the above reality, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested departments, branches and 168 wards, communes, and special zones to urgently concretize action plans, synchronously implement solutions; in which, focus on perfecting mechanisms and policies for managing and using roadways and sidewalks; innovate propaganda and legal education; strengthen patrols and strictly handle violations; promote the responsibility of local authorities, especially heads.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, police at all levels simultaneously launched inspections and handled violations, focusing on restoring order, ensuring urban aesthetics, traffic safety and walkways for pedestrians in Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition to handling, the Ho Chi Minh City Police also proposed that localities proactively arrange suitable business locations and parking lots so that people can stabilize their long-term livelihoods, avoiding the situation where "sidewalks are the only rice pot" leading to re-offending.
