Series of projects to handle flooding around Thu Duc market
Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a list of public investment projects for the period 2026 - 2027 to serve flood prevention in the area.
Thu Duc market area has been frequently deeply flooded for many years after heavy rain combined with high tides, affecting traffic and daily life of people on Kha Van Can, Duong Van Cam, Dang Thi Ranh, Ho Van Tu, Tam Tam Xa and To Ngoc Van routes. To solve this situation, the city will implement many projects.

The most prominent is the Thu Duc canal renovation project with a total capital of more than 5,084 billion VND. The project will build about 3km of embankment along the canal, including more than 2.3km of Thu Duc canal and 650m of Nha Tra canal; build a pumping station with a capacity of 120,000m3/hour and a system of roads along both sides of the canal according to the plan. The project also builds about 1.4km of new roads with a width of 14m, including a road surface of 8m and sidewalks on both sides of 3m wide.
The Linh Tay stream drainage system construction project with a total capital of about 2,774 billion VND will upgrade and expand about 1.66km of urban roads and build nearly 1.73km of drainage system according to the basin planning.

For the central area of Thu Duc market, the city invested nearly 68 billion VND to renovate the drainage system on Duong Van Cam, Dang Thi Ranh, Kha Van Can and Ho Van Tu streets.
The project will build a new box culvert system, replace degraded culvert sections, and equip a mobile pump with a capacity of 5,000 - 7,500m3/hour to increase drainage capacity at discharge gates when heavy rain combined with high tides occurs.
The project to build a drainage system along the Ngoc Thuy ditch has a total capital of nearly 86 billion VND.
Go Vap implements many projects to eliminate prolonged flooding points
A series of flood control projects will also be implemented in the old Go Vap district area to handle flooded spots for many years on Nguyen Van Khoi, Le Van Tho, Pham Van Chieu, Le Duc Tho, Quang Trung, Thong Nhat and Phan Huy Ich streets.
The project to renovate the drainage system of Nguyen Van Khoi and Le Van Tho streets with a total capital of more than 352 billion VND will build more than 2km of drainage system on Le Van Tho street (section from Quang Trung to Cau Cut canal) and more than 3.1km of drainage culverts on Nguyen Van Khoi street connecting to Tham Luong canal.

The Pham Van Chieu road drainage system renovation project has a total capital of more than 32.5 billion VND, about 580m long, and will install a sewer system with diameters from D1000 to D1500 and synchronous horizontal sewer lines.
The project to renovate the drainage system of Le Duc Tho street (section from Pham Van Chieu to Cau Cut) has a total capital of 56.4 billion VND, building nearly 640m of box culverts and a horizontal culvert system to increase drainage capacity.
The Cau Cut canal infrastructure and environmental improvement project with a total capital of more than 2,301 billion VND will dredge about 1.5km of the canal bed, build 3km of embankments on both sides combined with sidewalks about 3m wide, and at the same time renovate and improve about 6km of traffic roads according to the plan.
The project to expand and upgrade Le Duc Tho street (section from Le Van Tho to Nguyen Oanh) with a total investment of more than 6,900 billion VND. The 2.74km long road will be expanded to a road boundary of 25-40m, combined with building a synchronous drainage system according to the plan.
The project to renovate the Thong Nhat road drainage system (section from Quang Trung to Ben Phan bridge) is more than 2.38km long with a total capital of more than 214 billion VND.
The project to renovate the drainage system of Quang Trung street (section from Pham Van Chieu to Cho Cau bridge) is 500m long, with a total capital of about 120 billion VND, building a large box culvert and two new discharge gates.
