After more than a year of construction, Rach Dia Bridge on Le Van Luong Street, connecting District 7 and Nha Be District, has completed the installation of 9 spans, connecting the two banks of the river.
Recorded in early November, workers were urgently constructing the bridge deck, installing railings and preparing asphalt.
The residential road system on both sides of the bridge is also nearly completed, including the road foundation, sidewalks, lighting system and trees. The approach roads on both sides of the bridge are being paved with crushed stone, ready for asphalt paving.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor), Rach Dia Bridge has completed more than 85% of the work volume and is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in December this year.
Before the new bridge was built, this area only had a small iron bridge, 3 m wide, built before 1975. After 50 years of operation, the bridge has seriously degraded and must be dismantled by the end of 2023, making it difficult for people to move around.
The new Rach Dia Bridge started construction in July 2023, with a length of 317.8 m with 9 spans, the widest part is about 10.5 m and the approach road is 233 m long, from 14 m to 27 m wide with drainage, lighting and tree systems. The project is invested with 512 billion VND from the city budget.
Along with Rach Dia bridge, Phuoc Long bridge on Pham Huu Lau street is also being urgently completed to open to traffic in December 2024.
The project is now approximately 80% complete. All 10 piers have been completed and 7/9 spans have been girdered. Contractors are now working hard on the deck.
The Phuoc Long Bridge approach road system is also being implemented, with 97% of the drainage installation work completed. The contractor has completed the roadbed and retaining wall in Nha Be District, and is continuing construction on the remaining section in District 7.
Phuoc Long Bridge is 359 m long, started construction in February 2020 with an initial investment of 398 billion VND. However, after some bridge piers were completed, the project was suspended due to delay in handing over the site.
By July 2022, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved the adjustment of investment capital, raising the total investment to VND 748 billion, mainly to serve the work of compensation, site clearance and relocation of technical infrastructure.
According to the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects of Traffic Works in Ho Chi Minh City, when Rach Dia Bridge is completed, this project will play an important role in connecting Le Van Luong Street with Nguyen Van Linh Avenue, enhancing traffic capacity between District 7 and Nha Be.
Rach Dia Bridge also helps reduce traffic pressure on Rach Dia 2 Bridge on Nguyen Huu Tho Street, which has been overloaded for many years, especially during rush hour.
Meanwhile, Phuoc Long Bridge will help reduce the load on Phu Xuan 2 Bridge on Huynh Tan Phat Street, contributing to solving traffic congestion at one of the four hot spots in District 7 and Nha Be District.
