My Thuy intersection is located on an important route: Dong Van Cong - Vo Chi Cong - Nguyen Thi Dinh (in Thanh My Loi ward, Thu Duc city), is the gateway to Cat Lai port - the largest port in the country in terms of cargo volume.
This is an area that often experiences serious traffic congestion and is one of the 9 black spots for traffic accidents in Ho Chi Minh City.
The My Thuy intersection project is designed on a 3-storey scale with a total initial investment of about 1,998 billion VND, approved in principle by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in 2016 and expected to be completed in 2021.
However, although construction started in 2016, the project has only reached 48% of the total workload.
Some major items have been completed, including: Ky Ha 3 bridge (left branch) 75m long with 4 lanes; left turn tunnel from Ring Road 2 to Cat Lai port 505m long (2 lanes); overpass on Ring Road 2 with 4 lanes; My Thuy 3 bridge with 6 lanes.
Since 2021, the project has been suspended due to problems with site clearance. In August 2022, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council decided to adjust the total investment of the project to VND 3,622 billion, an increase of more than VND 1,623 billion compared to the original, mainly due to increased site clearance costs.
The site clearance work was then separated into a separate project, invested by Thu Duc City People's Committee.
In April this year, the project was restarted with the construction of Ky Ha 4 Bridge. However, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board (the investor), the slow site clearance process continues to hinder construction.
Up to now, Thu Duc City People's Committee has only been able to hand over 1 out of 195 cases needing land to the investor, making it almost impossible for the project to progress.
The construction package of Ky Ha 4 bridge and the right turn from Phu My bridge has only reached about 16%.
The construction packages for the road branches and underpasses on the left and right banks of My Thuy canal have reached 15% and 50% respectively, but are currently suspended due to land acquisition problems.
The project was allocated more than 757 billion VND in capital this year, but only more than 9.5 billion VND has been disbursed, reaching a rate of 1.25%.
In order to avoid further delays in the project, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong has assigned the Thu Duc City People's Committee to urgently complete and finalize procedures related to compensation, support, and resettlement, and hand over the entire cleared site to the investor before December 31.
In the immediate future, the site related to the abutment and piers of Cat Lai overpass and the construction site of abutment M1 of Ky Ha 4 bridge must be handed over before November 15.
As planned, My Thuy intersection will be completed in December 2025, helping to reduce congestion and the risk of accidents in the East of Ho Chi Minh City.
