The Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee has just agreed on the policy of researching and developing a Project to relocate and expand higher education institutions, colleges, vocational training institutions and medical facilities out of the inner city according to a suitable roadmap, ensuring synchronization with the overall plan of Ho Chi Minh City.
At the same time, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee also agreed to study the Project on effectively exploiting available land resources, in accordance with planning to develop social housing in the area.
The Standing Committee of the City Party Committee assigned the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to lead the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to direct relevant agencies and units to urgently complete the above-mentioned projects, ensuring quality, progress and in accordance with regulations.
The organization and implementation will be carried out according to a suitable roadmap until 2030 and the following years; periodically report to the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee for monitoring and direction.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, after merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City currently manages more than 12.8 million vehicles, including more than 1.4 million cars and nearly 11.4 million motorbikes.
The rapid increase in personal vehicles is creating great pressure on the already overloaded urban transport infrastructure system.
The demand for parking in the central area is very large, while the system of underground, above-ground and multi-story parking lots is severely lacking. The occupation of sidewalks and roadways for parking is common, narrowing the road surface and increasing the risk of traffic jams.
In addition, urban planning still has many shortcomings. The proportion of land for transportation and public works has not met development requirements.
With a centrifugal urban structure, most of the high-quality jobs along with a system of large universities, end-line hospitals, financial - commercial, administrative and industrial parks, export processing zones (such as Tan Thuan) concentrated in the urban core.
This forces people from the suburbs to move to the city center every day, increasing traffic congestion.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, in the long term, Ho Chi Minh City needs to adjust urban planning in the direction of even and scattered development, reducing pressure on the central area.
In which, the study of relocating schools, hospitals and industrial parks out of the urban core is considered an important and sustainable solution to solve the traffic congestion problem.
