Ho Chi Minh City will expand Dinh Bo Linh and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh streets, build Binh Trieu 3 bridge and deploy an elevated route connecting National Highway 13 to Dien Bien Phu street.

The information was announced by Mr. Tran Quang Lam - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction - when answering questions at the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council meeting on December 10.

At the question-and-answer session, delegate Tran Minh Xuan expressed voters' opinions expecting regional traffic projects, especially National Highway 13 axis, to be completed soon to facilitate travel, reduce time pressure and costs for people.

Responding to this issue, Mr. Tran Quang Lam said that the project to upgrade National Highway 13 (from Binh Trieu Bridge to Vinh Binh Bridge) is nearly 6 km long and is expected to start construction in June 2026 and be completed in 2028, synchronous with the section passing through Binh Duong province before.

The route will be expanded to 60 m, with a total investment of about VND 20,900 billion, implemented under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form.

Of which, about 3.2 km in the middle of the route will be used to build a 4-lane elevated road with a design speed of 80 km/h.

Both sides have 3-lane parallel roads on each side, with a maximum speed of 60 km/h for mixed vehicles. The project also includes two two-way underpasses at the Binh Loi and Binh Phuoc intersections.

In parallel with the National Highway 13 project, Mr. Tran Quang Lam said that Ho Chi Minh City is studying the construction of Binh Trieu 3 bridge with a scale of 4 - 6 lanes, located between Binh Trieu 1 and 2 bridges.

When completed, the total number of lanes passing through Binh Trieu Bridge will reach about 10, meeting the huge traffic demand at the Northeast gateway.

Along with that, Ho Chi Minh City will expand Dinh Bo Linh and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh streets, and at the same time deploy an elevated route running along these two routes.

It is expected that Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street (from Hang Xanh intersection to Binh Trieu 1 Bridge, including a section of National Highway 13 through the old Mien Dong Bus Station) will be expanded to 30 - 40 m. Dai Liet Si intersection will be built according to the roundabout plan combined with an underpass.

Dinh Bo Linh Street (from Binh Trieu 2 Bridge to Dien Bien Phu Street) is 2 km long and will be expanded to 25 m.

When the entire system of bridges, elevated roads, and expanded roads is completed, Ho Chi Minh City will form a modern, smooth traffic axis from National Highway 13 to Dien Bien Phu Street.

This is considered a key solution to reduce congestion that has lasted for many years in the Northeast gateway area, especially the hot spot Binh Trieu - Dinh Bo Linh - Xo Viet Nghe Tinh.
