The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council a decision on the investment policy for the Thu Thiem 4 bridge construction project.
According to the proposal, the Thu Thiem 4 bridge project has a total length of about 2.16 km, of which the bridge section is about 1.635 km long. The bridge is designed with a scale of 8 lanes, including 6 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for mixed vehicles.
The starting point of the project is located on Nguyen Van Linh Street, the intersection with Tan Thuan 2 Bridge (Tan Thuan Ward), the end point connects to Nguyen Co Thach Street (North - South Axis) in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area (An Khanh Ward).
The total estimated investment of the project is about 5,063 billion VND, using all of Ho Chi Minh City's budget.
Of which, construction and equipment costs are about VND 2,764.2 billion; project management, consulting and other costs are about VND 256 billion; contingency costs are VND 658.4 billion; compensation, support and resettlement costs are about VND 1,385 billion.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee proposed to separate compensation, support, resettlement and site clearance into independent projects.
Component project 1 is compensation, support and resettlement with a total investment of about 1,385 billion VND. Component project 2 is the construction of Thu Thiem 4 bridge, with a total investment of about VND 3,678.6 billion.
Regarding progress, compensation, support and resettlement work is expected to be implemented from the third quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. The selection of construction contractors and supervision consultants will be carried out in the fourth quarter of 2026. The project is expected to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2026 and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2028.

Previously, the Thu Thiem 4 bridge project encountered many problems related to clearance of water. The proposed options include a fixed clearance of 10 m, 15 m, 45 m; a plan to raise - lower the span from 15 m to 45 m; or a tunnel plan across the Saigon River.
Recently, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee agreed on the policy of selecting a clearance clearance for Thu Thiem 4 bridge at 15 m, thereby removing the largest bottleneck of the project.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has assigned the Department of Construction to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, branches and units to urgently implement the next steps of the project, and soon put the project into construction.
Thu Thiem 4 Bridge is expected to create momentum for the development of Thu Thiem New Urban Area, while shortening the connecting distance from the East (formerly Thu Duc City, Binh Thanh) to the South (formerly District 7, 8, Nha Be, Binh Chanh).
When completed, the project will contribute to reducing pressure on many major traffic axes such as Ton Duc Thang Street, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Khanh Hoi Bridge, Huynh Tan Phat - Nguyen Van Linh axis and Tan Thuan Industrial Park area.
