Lam Dong - Dam Rong 4 implements the model of durian, mulberry and livelihood support policies, gradually reducing poverty and improving people's lives.

Livelihood models create motivation to rise up

Dam Rong 4 commune was established on the basis of merging three communes Da Tong, Da Long and Dung K'No. The locality has an area of more than 391km2, including 16 villages with 3,052 households, about 17,184 people; of which more than 90% are ethnic minorities.

In hamlet 1, Mr. Ka Son Ha Dong's durian intercropping with coffee model has become a bright spot in the economic development of ethnic minorities.

About 9 years ago, when many households were still hesitant about high-value crops, Mr. Dong boldly introduced 50 Ri6 durian trees for trial planting.

In the early years, the yield was not high due to lack of experience, but with persistently learning techniques, the garden grew more and more.

Currently, on an area of 4ha, his family has more than 600 durian trees of all kinds. Last crop, more than 100 Ri6 trees yielded about 7 tons of fruit, sold at a price of 50,000 VND/kg, earning about 350 million VND.

Next, more than 100 Thai durian seedlings added about 10 tons, bringing in nearly 400 million VND.

Not only helping the family improve income, Mr. Dong's model also creates motivation for many households to boldly convert crop structures, towards producing high-value goods.

Besides durian, the model of growing mulberry and raising silkworms is also developing in many villages in the commune.

With the advantage of low investment capital, suitable for natural conditions and providing stable income, mulberry trees are opening up more sustainable livelihoods for local people.

Accompanying people in sustainable poverty reduction

In parallel with the proactiveness of the people, Dam Rong 4 commune is mobilizing resources from the National Target Program to support livelihoods, invest in infrastructure and improve living standards.

Chairman of Dam Rong 4 Commune People's Committee Khong Huu Kien said that the locality focuses on supporting production, technology transfer, investing in essential infrastructure and improving the quality of people's lives.

In 2025, the commune was allocated more than 11.7 billion VND of career capital to implement projects on domestic water, production development, infrastructure, health care and gender equality.

According to the review results at the end of 2025, the whole commune still has 255 multidimensional poor households, accounting for 8.36%, including 89 poor households and 166 near-poor households, mostly ethnic minorities.

In 2026, the commune proposed to extend the capital source of 3 national target programs that have not been disbursed to the following year, with a total budget of more than 22 billion VND. The locality also accelerates the progress of projects, increasing the disbursement rate.

According to Mr. Khong Huu Kien, in the coming time, the commune will continue to encourage people to develop key crops such as durian, coffee, mulberry; support vocational training, create long-term livelihoods and invest in infrastructure to serve production.

Support policies and proactive production transformation are expected to help Dam Rong 4 continue to reduce poverty and improve the lives of ethnic minorities.
