For more than 1.5 years, La Gi fishing port in La Gi town, Binh Thuan province has continuously recorded many cases of fishing boats sinking due to strand when entering and leaving the port. The reason is that the serious silting situation at the port gate area has caused the channel to narrow, the depth is no longer safe for large-capacity ships.

Some of the fishing vessels sinking here that Lao Dong newspaper reported were: on the afternoon of June 12, a fishing vessel with a capacity of 155 CV including 4 workers ran aground and sank while sailing into La Gi Port. 4 workers were rescued safely. At its peak on March 10, 3 fishing boats sank at La Gi port for 1 hour in a row.

With the cases of fishing vessels sinking at La Gi port in recent times, in addition to property damage, the incidents also cause difficulties and dangers for vessels when entering and leaving the port, avoiding winds and storms and causing concern for fishermen every time they go to sea.

On June 21, a large barge was anchored at the gate of La Gi port. Many workers are installing large tubes. Fishermen here said they were very happy to hear the information about preparing to dredge and suck sand to clear the channel through La Gi port so that ships can enter and exit more easily.
Talking to reporters, the La Gi Port Management Board said that the vehicles are currently deploying equipment to dredge the flow.

The area of filling at La Gi port extends from the head of the dike to prevent sand, reduce waves to the outer side of the estuary, especially the area of the entrance between the two ends of the dike, with a total length of about 250 m along the center of the channel.
Although the situation of La Gi port has been filled for a long time, to dredge and clear the flow, the authorities and localities must prepare documents and related procedures in accordance with regulations such as preparing an environmental impact assessment report and organizing the appraisal of this report, etc.
