In the afternoon of September 12, recorded on Tran Xuan Soan street (Tan Thuan ward), high tide caused water from the Te canal to rise rapidly and overflow onto the road surface. Vehicles, especially motorbikes, had to move slowly to avoid stalling.
People living and doing business along the route said that the flooding situation due to high tides is no longer strange, especially at times when the water level rises.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, a resident living on Tran Xuan Soan street, said that every time the tide rises, the water usually rises quickly. "Some days the water rises close to the door of the house, motorcyclists passing through the flooded section have to drive very slowly. If it rains heavily at the right time, the water recedes for even longer," Mr. Hung said.
People in this area must proactively stack goods and use items to prevent water whenever there is tidal information.
Ms. Le Tuyet Mai (living in Tan Thuan ward), said: "This road is crowded with vehicles, so when flooded, vehicles run through creating waves, and people with weak driving skills can easily fall. Looking from afar, the Kenh Te River and the road seem to merge into one.
According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the water level at most stations on the Saigon River will continue to rise according to the high tide period at the beginning of August (lunar calendar) for another 1-2 days, then recede again. The highest tide peak in this period is likely to appear on September 12-13.
At Phu An and Nha Be stations, the water may rise to a level close to and below alarm level III by about 0.05 m; At Thu Dau Mot station, it may reach above alarm level III from 0.05-0.10 m; The highest tide peak appears around 5am-7am or 5pm-7pm.
It is necessary to prevent heavy rain combined with high tides from causing flooding in low-lying areas and riverside areas, affecting traffic and socio-economic activities in the Ho Chi Minh City area.
