On April 22, Hau Giang Provincial Police held a ceremony to posthumously award the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to Major Nguyen Van Kha, a police officer of Vinh Tuong Commune (Vi Thuy District, Hau Giang Province) for his outstanding achievements in training, serving in combat, building the People's Public Security force, maintaining political security, social order and safety, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.
At the ceremony, the Political Affairs Department of the Provincial Police announced the President's Decision on posthumously awarding the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to Major Nguyen Van Kha.

Also at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Chi Hung - Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee awarded a Certificate of Merit from Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee to Mr. Le Quang Nhan, Head of the Security and Order Protection Team at Vinh Hoa Hamlet and Mr. Tran Minh Kha, Member of the Security and Order Protection Team at Vinh Hoa Hamlet for their outstanding achievements in the fight against and prevention of crime.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hau Giang Provincial Party Secretary Dong Van Thanh expressed his deep gratitude and infinite condolences for the noble sacrifice of comrade Nguyen Van Kha. Hau Giang Provincial Party Secretary also expressed his condolences to the family, relatives, and comrades of comrade Nguyen Van Kha.
The Hau Giang Provincial Party Secretary emphasized that the authorities should promptly investigate, prosecute, and strictly handle the related subjects according to the law.
The Secretary of Hau Giang Provincial Party Committee also stated that all levels, sectors, local authorities and organizations pay attention to ensuring policies, taking care of material and spiritual life, supporting education, employment, and stabilizing the long-term life of comrade Kha's wife, children and family as a practical and humane gratitude to those who have passed away.

Previously, Hau Giang Provincial Police said that the Investigation Police Agency had just issued a decision to temporarily detain Lam Quoc Khanh (born in 1995, Hoa Thanh Hamlet, Hoa Hung Commune, Giong Rieng District, Kien Giang Province) for the act of "Resisting a person on duty".
According to the initial investigation results, on the evening of April 14, Lam Quoc Khanh drove an electric scrap boat carrying Tran Thanh Ai (born in 2003, Giong Rieng town, Giong Rieng district, Kien Giang province) to Hau Giang province to illegally fish.

At around 9:00 p.m. the same day, the working group of Vinh Tuong Commune Police, Vi Thuy District, Hau Giang Province, consisting of Captain Nguyen Van Kha and two members of the security and order protection force at the Nang Mau canal patrol facility, arrived at the section in Vinh Thuan Hamlet and discovered the electric boat scrapers of Khanh and Ai illegally fishing, so they signaled to stop the vehicle for inspection.
At this time, Khanh did not comply, did not cut off the power source but accelerated and ran away, crashed into the vehicle of the police force, causing comrade Kha to fall into the river and go missing. After more than an hour of searching, the task force found comrade Kha's body.
The results of the scene investigation and initial autopsy determined that Captain Nguyen Van Kha was electrocuted, leading to his death.
On April 17, Hau Giang Provincial Police said that in order to recognize the spirit of determination in fighting against crime and violations of the law; the sacrifice of Comrade Nguyen Van Kha, the Minister of Public Security decided to promote the rank from Captain to Major, from April 14, 2025 for Comrade Nguyen Van Kha (born in 1986, Go Quao district, Kien Giang province), an officer of Vinh Tuong Commune Police, Vi Thuy district.
