Officially started at the end of 2022, the project to expand National Highway 50 section passing through Binh Chanh district (formerly) has a total length of nearly 7km, stretching from Nguyen Van Linh intersection to the border section of Tay Ninh province.

The entire project has a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND, divided into two core items including: the new construction section (parallel road to National Highway 50) 4.2km long and the existing route expansion section 2.6km long. Up to now, the total construction volume of the entire project has reached more than 90% of the progress, aiming to be completed by the end of the third quarter of this year.

According to actual records at the construction site, the starting area intersecting with Nguyen Van Linh Avenue has been officially completed and organized for two-way traffic. For the 4km parallel section - the first item to be implemented in the project - many important tasks have been basically completed such as sidewalks, green tree systems and public lighting. Meanwhile, the 3km extended national highway section is also being comprehensively upgraded from 8m wide to 34m wide, ensuring space for 6 lanes to run.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Luu, a resident living in Hung Long commune, shared that the road being expanded three times compared to before has helped this area significantly reduce traffic congestion, and at the same time promote the surrounding infrastructure to become more synchronous. She hopes that the project will soon be completed so that people's travel will be more convenient, helping the living environment in the area become more clean, beautiful, and civilized.

The end point of the expanded road is the area of Ong Thin bridge over the Can Giuoc River, adjacent to Tay Ninh province. Here, contractors are focusing on constructing a new bridge branch to expand the scale to 6 lanes and two sidewalks for pedestrians. It is expected that in June, the new Ong Thin bridge branch will be officially completed. The existing bridge will be temporarily closed to implement technical measures to reinforce.

According to the proposed plan, the entire main axis will be technically opened to traffic before June 30 (except for the existing bridge reinforcement item) and comprehensively completed in 2026.

When officially put into operation with a scale of 6 complete lanes, National Highway 50 not only strengthens internal traffic capacity but also directly connects with key axes such as Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, Ring Road 3 and Ring Road 4, reducing traffic pressure for the southern gateway, tightening the socio-economic link between Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh province and the Mekong Delta provinces, and maximizing the traffic infrastructure network of the entire region.
