The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) has just submitted a report to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment requesting appraisal of the feasibility study report of the compensation, support, and resettlement project serving the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line.
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line is about 53.8 km long, starting point at Ben Thanh station (9/23 Park) and ending point at Can Gio Depot on a land area of about 39 hectares in Can Gio commune.
The project passes through the wards of Ben Thanh, Khanh Hoi, Xom Chieu, Tan Thuan, Tan My and the communes of Nha Be, Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong, Can Gio.
This metro line was started on December 19, 2025 under the BOO (build - own - operate) contract form, with a total investment of more than 102,000 billion VND arranged by the investor.
Specifically, compensation, support and resettlement for the project will be undertaken by the Ho Chi Minh City budget, with a total investment of about 9,834 billion VND.
The total affected land area is about 153.8 ha. There are about 510 affected cases, including 418 cases of partial clearance and 92 cases of full clearance. In addition, there are 17 organizations affected by land acquisition.
In which, Binh Khanh commune is the locality with the most affected households with 187 households and 1 organization. Nha Be commune has 170 households and 3 organizations affected; An Thoi Dong commune has 92 households and 1 organization; Can Gio commune has 26 households and 5 organizations.
In the inner city area, Tan Thuan ward has 27 households and 2 organizations affected; Xom Chieu ward has 8 households; Tan My ward has 5 organizations in the land acquisition area.

According to MAUR, the compensation, support, and resettlement project serving the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line has met the conditions to submit to specialized agencies and competent authorities for appraisal and approval according to regulations.
MAUR requests the Department of Agriculture and Environment to consider and appraise to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for approval the feasibility study report dossier, as a basis for implementing the next steps.
At the same time, MAUR also proposed that departments and branches advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to arrange a resettlement apartment fund for affected households to ensure housing, create favorable conditions for site clearance and stabilize social security.
According to the plan, in June 2026, Ho Chi Minh City will complete the preparation, appraisal and approval of compensation, support, and resettlement projects.
The work of land acquisition, compensation and resettlement is strived to be completed to hand over the site to investors in the fourth quarter of 2026. The relocation of affected technical infrastructure works must also be completed before this time.
Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro is expected to be completed in 2028. When put into operation, the metro line will shorten the travel time from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio to about 13 minutes, contributing to the formation of a large-volume public transport axis and promoting socio-economic development in the southern area of the city.
