With being put into use at Tam Anh General Hospital, Vietnam is the 9th country to own this modern surgical equipment system. Previously, this modern technology was approved by the FDA to be put into use in the US.
To develop this technique, two important factors are needed: a system of equipment and high-quality professional human resources. New technology requires a team of highly trained doctors who are able to access and master the scientific and technological advances of the world.
Mr. Ngo Chi Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tam Anh General Hospital System, said that AI Robot for artificial joint replacement is the next technology that Tam Anh brings to Vietnam, within the overall strategy of synchronizing a modern equipment system, a team of experts and good doctors, aiming for the goal of domestic patients and international tourists to fully enjoy the value of high-quality medical services.

According to TTƯT. TS. BS. CKII Le Van Tuan, Director of the Trauma and Orthopedics Center, Tam Anh General Hospital System, Ho Chi Minh City, CUVIS-Joint is the latest generation Robot system specializing in proactive knee and hip replacement surgery completely according to the plan approved by the doctor.
CUVIS-Joint robot directly performs or assists doctors in planning surgery, operations need to be "super accurate" such as detailed preoperative planning, selection of joint type, joint size, joint placement position, limb axis, soft tissue balance, accurate bone cuts and can adjust plans immediately during surgery.
Dr. Tuan explained that in joint replacement surgery, a small deviation of a few millimeters can cause patients to have loose joints, prolonged pain, misaligned gait or face the risk of re-surgery later. AI CUVIS-Joint robot supports doctors to overcome the above limitations to the maximum, standardize and improve the accuracy of joint replacement surgery far beyond previous techniques.
Along with the ability to analyze CT joint images, create 3D joint structure images to accurately determine size parameters, the robot's AI technology also helps analyze 3D CT images, allowing detailed surgery simulations in three-dimensional space and personalizing all surgical parameters for each patient.
During the surgery, the CUVIS-Joint Robot directly performed bone cuts using the 6-axis Robot arm according to the adjusted plan.

When performing bone resection, the robot performs slices with millimeter-definite accuracy, an accuracy that human hands can hardly achieve, creating a smooth resection surface even in a narrow surgical field.
“THE CUVIS-Joint robot helps improve accuracy, operating capacity and superior efficiency for patients, minimizing complications because it is not affected by factors that humans can hardly achieve perfection such as the stability of hand force grinding bones, placing joints, and also has the ability to calculate data accurately to the millimeter,” said Dr. Tuan.
Immediately after being licensed for use by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, Tam Anh Hospital has continuously performed 20 joint replacement surgeries using this AI Robot, bringing outstanding efficiency in terms of accuracy in surgical operations, patients reduce pain to the maximum and recover quickly.
As in the case of Ms. Phuoc, 68 years old, with severe degeneration in both knee joints for more than 20 years, suffering from severe pain and unable to walk normally. In 2023, Ms. Phuoc was indicated for artificial knee replacement in her left leg.

After 3 years, she returned to Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to replace the remaining knee joint with the support of the AI CUVIS-Joint Robot. Due to many underlying diseases such as diabetes, goiter, and grade 3 kidney failure, having placed 4 cardiovascular stents, Ms. Phuoc received special pre-operative care and detailed surgery plans to ensure safety, and after surgery, the knee joint moved naturally and stably.
On the second day after surgery, Ms. Phuoc said that this robot joint replacement made her recover better, healthier and less painful.
In addition to the AI robot for complete proactive joint replacement, at Tam Anh General Hospital, participating in the diagnostic and surgical process are also CT Somatom Force VB30 systems with more than 100,000 slices, MRI 3 Tesla, modern microsurgery glasses, C-arm positioning machine (continuous X-ray system during surgery)...
Before and after knee replacement, patients are evaluated and trained in rehabilitation with modern systems such as functional rehabilitation with HUR air-injected power transmission systems to assess the strength of the lower extremities, improve post-operative movement control, passive knee flexion and straightening with CPM machines, electrical pulses... to accelerate the recovery process.
