Vinh Long discovers 3 martyrs' remains at Nhuan Phu Tan commune temporary cemetery

Vinh Long - On the first day of repatriation at Nhuan Phu Tan temporary cemetery, functional forces discovered 3 sets of martyrs' remains.

On August 3, the Military Command of Vinh Long province deployed the review, search, and repatriation of martyrs' remains at the temporary war cemetery in Vinh Tri hamlet, Nhuan Phu Tan commune. On the first day of implementation, functional forces discovered 3 sets of martyrs' remains.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Huyen Vi - Head of the Provisional Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains, Vinh Long Provincial Military Command, the excavation area was once a temporary cemetery during the anti-American resistance war. After the country's reunification, this location was used as the commune's cemetery.

Due to wartime, the area is located near enemy posts, so the burial of martyrs mainly takes place at night, many graves are not covered with mushrooms, and the burial location is not in order. When implementing the policy of relocating remains from commune cemeteries to district cemeteries in the past, the repatriation was mainly based on existing graves, so many locations are likely to have remains of martyrs remaining.

The relocation area is about 2,000m2 wide, belonging to Vinh Tri hamlet (old Khanh Thanh Tan commune). Before excavation, functional forces cleared bombs, mines, and explosives left over from the war to ensure safety.

During the repatriation process, functional forces took biological samples from the remains, made records, preserved artifacts and handed them over in accordance with regulations to serve the work of identifying martyrs. Notably, a set of remains was found intact in a tent, hammock, along with some artifacts such as a wind oil bottle and pieces of metal wire.

According to the plan, the repatriation activity is expected to last about 20 days with the participation of the Provisional Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains under the Vinh Long Provincial Military Command and Team K90, Political Department of Military Region 9.

This is an activity in response to the "Operation 500 Days and Nights", contributing to the search, gathering and identification of martyrs, expressing the morality of "Drinking water, remembering the source", "Gratitude".
