Cao Bang continues to have earthquakes, people hear loud explosions from underground

Tân Văn |

Cao Bang - The 3rd earthquake in 5 days has just occurred, people heard a loud explosion from underground.

On the afternoon of August 3rd, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 occurred in Bao Lac commune (Cao Bang province), causing many people to clearly feel the tremors after hearing a loud explosion coming from underground.

This is the third earthquake recorded in this locality in just 5 days.

According to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center (Institute of Earth Sciences, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), the earthquake occurred at 3:19:58 PM on August 3rd (Hanoi time), with a magnitude of 3.2.

The epicenter was determined at coordinates 22.929 degrees North latitude, 105.683 degrees East longitude, belonging to Bao Lac commune, Cao Bang province. The focal depth is about 16.8 km. The disaster risk level due to earthquakes is determined at level 0.

Recorded at the epicenter area, Ms. Phung Mui Nhai (Bao Lac commune) said that before the shaking occurred, she heard a loud explosion coming from underground. Immediately after that, the floor and walls of the house shook for a few seconds.

Everyone is getting used to it, because the phenomenon is the same, there is a loud explosion and then a slight shaking," Ms. Nhai shared.

According to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center, this is the third earthquake to occur in Cao Bang since the end of July.

Previously, at 9:44 am on July 30, an earthquake of magnitude 3.6 was recorded in Bao Lac commune. At 8:51 pm on August 1, another earthquake of magnitude 3.2 occurred in Hung Dao commune, about 25 km from the epicenter of the previous earthquake. The earthquake on the afternoon of August 3 was about 23 km from the epicenter of August 1.

According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh - Director of the Institute of Earth Sciences, the epicenters of the three recent earthquakes are all within the scope of impact of the fault zone of Thai Nguyen - Bac Kan - Yen Minh.

The Institute is continuing to monitor and analyze the earthquake chain to assess the developments as well as seismic activity characteristics in the area.

Geological studies show that the Bao Lac and Hung Dao areas (Cao Bang) are located on the Gam River fault zone - one of the active fault zones in the Northeast region. Therefore, this area regularly records earthquakes of small to medium magnitude. Most earthquakes do not cause significant damage.

Specialized agencies recommend that people proactively monitor information from functional agencies, and at the same time remain calm and take safety measures if they continue to feel vibrations in the coming time.
