The project is delayed due to natural disasters
The rapid natural disasters have also caused the construction progress of the component projects of Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon and Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh (under the North - South Expressway Construction Project in the East, phase 2021-2025) through Gia Lai province to be interrupted.
At the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon component project, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Director of the Project Management Board (Project Management Board 85, Ministry of Construction) - said that storm No. 13 and the recent flood caused a prolonged interruption of the power system, material mixing stations could not operate; the transportation routes were flooded and local workers had to take a break to prevent and overcome the consequences of storms and floods, affecting the construction progress. As of December 3, the entire project has completed about 97% of the project volume.
To ensure the inauguration on December 19, 2025 according to the direction of the Prime Minister, the unit must construct day and night. However, the current weather often rains, affecting the technical and quality of the project, so the spirit is to focus all efforts, not resting on sunny days and favorable weather.
At the Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh component project, Mr. Bui Trong Lai - Director of the Project Management Board (Project Management Board 85, Ministry of Construction) - said that the progress being affected is inevitable when natural disasters occur continuously in the province. Materials - stone - for the project are imported from mines in Tuy Hoa area and some places in the old Phu Yen (now Dak Lak province), however, these mines are all flooded and have no power, causing grinding and supply of materials to be interrupted, affecting the construction progress.
"We are focusing all our efforts to strive to complete the project according to the direction of the Prime Minister" - Mr. Lai said.
The Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon component project is over 70km long, with a total investment of over VND 12,400 billion; the Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh project is 61.7km long, of which 19.6km is through Gia Lai and 42.1km is through Dak Lak, with a total investment of over VND 14,800 billion.
Construction in 3 shifts, 4 teams to reach the finish line
The Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway project has 3 tunnels across the mountain with a total length of 4.5km; of which tunnels 1 and 2 have been completed. In particular, tunnel No. 3 is the longest tunnel that the contractor has dug through both tunnels and is constructing concrete for the tunnel lining and roadbed to be completed by the end of this year, 8 months ahead of schedule. Many units such as tunnel No. 3 are currently mobilizing 1,000 workers to work in 3 shifts, striving to complete by mid-December
In the 88km long Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section, passing through the two provinces of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai, there are more than 3,000 workers and about 1,100 equipment and machines deploying 50 construction teams. For the road section, contractors and construction units have completed 78/83.5km of asphalt pavement, meeting the set schedule. According to the contract, the project completion deadline is August 2026, however, contractors are making efforts to complete before December 31, 2025, 8 months ahead of schedule.
