Regarding the crocodile appearance in the Black Water Canal area, near Chien Luoc Hamlet Road, Binh Hung Hoa Ward, on July 21, the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department said it had received the crocodile and identified it as a freshwater crocodile.
The crocodile weighs about 2 kg, is about 79 cm long, scientific name is Crocodylus siamensis, belonging to group IB in the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals.
After receiving the crocodile, the rangers of the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department took it to care for and rescue.
Previously, on July 20, people living along the Black Water canal said that they were worried when they discovered a crocodile regularly crawling up to the soil in the middle of the canal to sunbathe for about two weeks.
Initially, this crocodile did not appear afraid when someone approached. However, after some curious children used fishing rods to try to approach them, the animals became shy and rarely appeared publicly.
By July 21, local authorities had caught the crocodile and handed it over to the rangers.
