On September 9, the Construction Investment Project Management Board of Le Thuy commune (Quang Tri province) said that functional agencies have concluded the cause and proposed a plan to handle the road subsidence incident in Thach Tan village.
Previously, in this area, there was a situation of cracked asphalt road surface, subsidence, with locations more than 2m deep, affecting people's travel and safety.
After surveying and exploring the geology in the area where the incident occurred, functional agencies determined that the cause was that the construction foundation was placed on a weak and very weak geological foundation.
According to the assessment results, the road and irrigation embankment section belonging to the Kien Giang river branch at the location where subsidence occurred cannot be continued to be used, and need to be repaired and urgently repaired.
Specialized agencies have proposed handling plans to ensure safety for the project and surrounding areas.
Before this proposal, Le Thuy Commune People's Committee continued to implement safety measures in the incident area, limiting the risk of affecting people and vehicles.
At the same time, the locality reports to competent authorities for consideration and deployment of construction works according to emergency situations to carry out repairs and remedies.
The handling was set before the rainy and flood season to limit the risk of continued subsidence, affecting the road and irrigation embankment works in the area.
Currently, the subsided road section in Thach Tan village has not been completely repaired and overcome.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that at noon on July 27, people in Thach Tan village heard a loud noise and then discovered many cracks on the road surface. Just a few minutes later, a section of road about 50m long suddenly subsided.
The affected area is located along a branch of the Kien Giang River. The incident caused half of the road surface to slide towards the riverbank, the deepest subsidence point is more than 2m, revealing layers of soil and rock below.
Functional forces have set up barriers, planted warning signs and banned vehicles from passing through the area to ensure safety.
