The location for the study to establish a detailed plan for concentrated aquaculture is in the protection zone 2 (buffer zone) of the special national monument, the world natural heritage of Ha Long Bay with a scale of 260 hectares, divided into 2 areas.
Area 1 (area 210ha) is located: East borders Tuan Chau - Cat Ba waterway; West borders Hoang Tan commune border area; South borders Ba Mom waterway; North borders Tuan Chau island.
Area 2 (area 50ha) is located: East borders Vung Ba Cua island; West borders Bo Hung island; South borders Tra Huong island and Lach Ngan channel; North borders Ba Mom channel.
The project's farming objects are mollusks (geo clams, pearl oysters, clams, square clams, flower clams...), marine fish (yellowfin pomfret, sea bass, red snapper, grouper...) and intercropping of some seaweed species.
With aquaculture cages combined with tourism, they will be divided into 2 areas, including a commercial farming area and a demonstration farming area for tourists (large-sized, beautiful-colored, easy-to-observe, and approachable species...). Each farming raft has a minimum area of 300m2, with all necessary components such as an operating house, warehouse, toilets, cages, and safe walkways... Each cage has a volume of 100-200 m3 and each cluster of cages has about 10-12 cages. Cage clusters are 20-30m apart.
Investment capital is investor capital. Implementation period is from 2025 - 2030.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, aquaculture in the buffer zone of Ha Long Bay is aimed at both serving the management, protection and promotion of the value of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in accordance with the provisions of law, and concretizing the goals and tasks of the Prime Minister on sustainable marine aquaculture development.
At the same time, creating a stable and long-term livelihood for local people in sustainable aquaculture; contributing to the development of new tourism products suitable for the development of community tourism, responsible tourism, experiential tourism, etc.
Because the location is in the buffer zone of Ha Long Bay, it is necessary to report and seek approval from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to have a basis for implementing the next steps.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, the location of the aquaculture plan is outside the core zone of Ha Long Bay, so it has little impact on the conservation of Ha Long Bay Heritage. This is an area with a convenient location to connect with tourist areas (Tuan Chau, Sunworld - Bai Chay, Ha Long Xanh Complex...).
However, due to its proximity to the core area of Ha Long Bay, the locality is committed to strictly complying with technical measures, collecting and treating all types of waste and wastewater at sea in a preliminary treatment area before transporting them to the mainland for treatment so as not to affect the water quality of Ha Long Bay and the surrounding environment.
