Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the border area of Ha Giang

Nguyễn Tùng |

Ha Giang - Temporary and dilapidated houses have been demolished, opening up a new life for the poor people in the border area of the Fatherland.

In early December, Mr. Chu Thong Tai's family in Tam Son town, Quan Ba district is busy moving into their newly delivered house. There is almost no furniture in the house but the joy is overwhelming.

With the support fund of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses and the contribution of the community, Mr. Tai's family was able to build a house that meets the 3 hard standards (hard foundation, hard walls, hard roof), sanitation and basic amenities with an area of 73m2. The new house was handed over on December 5.

Looking at the new house, Mr. Tai was moved: "It's like a dream. For many years, I lived in a house made of dirt, with a roof full of holes. I was worried about landslides in the rain and the winter was freezing cold. Without the support of the State, I probably wouldn't have been able to build this house.

The house cost 100 million VND to build, I only had 30 million VND, the government supported 60 million VND, the rest came from the town and benefactors. From now on, the whole family has a new life."

This is also the first house out of a total of 50 temporary and dilapidated houses in Quan Ba district, expected to be completed before Lunar New Year 2025 to help disadvantaged households stabilize their lives.

In Ha Giang, there are about 25,401 households in need of housing support. Of these, 19,553 temporary and dilapidated houses have been eliminated, with a total direct support budget of over 903 billion VND.

However, the whole Ha Giang province still has 5,848 households in need of support, of which 4,951 households need to rebuild and 897 households need to repair. This border province strives to complete the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses by the end of 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Dung - Acting Secretary of Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee said that eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is not only the responsibility but also the sentiment of the entire political system and community towards those in difficult circumstances.

"This is the clearest proof of the concern of the Party, State and people to join hands in building a better life for the people of Ha Giang," Mr. Dung emphasized.

However, the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Ha Giang is currently facing a number of problems such as limited financial resources and rugged terrain that makes transporting materials and construction difficult.

Therefore, the leaders of Ha Giang province requested that localities, agencies and organizations need to implement the program with high determination, look directly at reality to overcome limitations, ensure effective implementation of the program, and bring practical benefits to the people.
