After 2 days of heavy rain and floods, causing heavy damage to the family's farm, the water has now receded, but the tired, sad, and heartbroken appearance of the family of Mr. Ho Van Hai (38 years old), Ms. Tran Thi Huong (37 years old) in Xuan Lau village, Cam Thach commune, Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh province has not yet subsided.
Ms. Huong boasted that the couple had been married since 2013. With difficult life, her husband went to work abroad in Japan in the hope of improving his family's economy. However, while working in a foreign country, Mr. Hai unfortunately suffered a work accident and lost his left arm.
Returning home, after a period of expensive treatment, becoming disabled and having poor health and not being able to work for hire or work for hire like normal people, the couple discussed borrowing capital to invest in a livestock farm.
After borrowing more than 1 billion VND to rent fish pond and shrimp pond excavators, building a row of livestock barns, Mr. Hai's family raised 250,000 green shrimp, raised 700 fish, 50 pigs, 250 chickens.
Now the fish weighs nearly 3kg/fish, the family is preparing to sell but they are busy harvesting the rice season, the night of 24, on the morning of 25.5, the floods come back quickly, suddenly flooding into the farm, the floods of the pond, causing the fish, shrimp out, 250 chickens also die clean, 2 tons of cattle food bran bought on reserves are also flooded, damaged, 2 tons of rice harvested ...
"Overall, the flood caused damage to my family's farm of about 100 million VND. borrowing a large amount of money, I thought that this time I would harvest and sell fish and save a little to pay monthly interest. But...", Ms. Huong said before she finished the sentence, sighing.
Losing his arm, after the severe damage, seeing his wife sad, Mr. Hai did not have to lie there long and lament but woke up to clean, sanitize, and take care of a herd of 50 pigs that had just been raised, luckily they did not die from floods.
"That day, the water flooded deep into the farm, luckily the pig farm was not flooded yet, if the pigs died, it is unknown when they would be able to recover," Mr. Hai shared.
Hope to help and support to overcome difficulties
Huong recalled that, on the night of May 24, when she was young at the farm, flooded with water in the chicken coop, she took the chicken to the bathroom to be higher. However, just after moving the chicken to the bathroom, the water has flooded in. Fear of danger to her children, she brought her son back to the grandparents. About 30 minutes later, she returned, the water was flooded with the farm more than half a person. At this time, she called for help but when they arrived, the water was too deep, overflowing through the banks of the fish pond, the house was flooded with the refrigerator, washing machine ...
The next morning, 2 tons of wet rice were helped to dry by the people and neighbors, supported in clearing mud in the house and in the alley, and encouraged the family.
The Women's Union of Cam Thach commune, Cam Xuyen district also came to encourage and support a small gift to share with the losses of Ms. Huong and Mr. Hai's family.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoan - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Cam Thach commune - said that the flood on the afternoon of May 24 and early morning of May 25 caused quite a lot of damage to some local households such as wet rice, dead poultry, flooded fish ponds... Of which, the farm of Ms. Huong and Mr. Hai in Xuan Lau village was the most severely damaged.
"To promptly encourage Mr. Hai's family, the Commune Front and the Commune Union have mobilized and donated to support the family with a gift. Hopefully, more organizations and individuals will continue to help and support families affected by floods, including Mr. Hai's family, so that they can ease their difficulties," Mr. Hoan shared.
