Handling heavily polluted canals and ditches in a luxury urban area on the shore of Ha Long Bay

Quang Ninh - In the immediate future, Ha Long ward will drain all water and dredge all polluted mud in the canal system in Monbay Urban Area.

Currently, the construction unit is organizing water pumping from the canal system in Monbay urban area - a luxury urban area, located right on the shore of Ha Long Bay, belonging to Ha Long ward, Quang Ninh province.

Previously, this unit drained water, prepared to dredge mud, but it rained heavily for a long time, so today it had to continue pumping water out.

According to a representative of the construction unit, if it does not rain, mud dredging will be carried out in about 2-3 days and then the pollution situation will be greatly reduced.

However, this only solves the tip of the iceberg if the source of pollution cannot be addressed.

At the scene, according to observations by Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, many wastewater pipes opened by people themselves continue to discharge directly into the canal system.

Mr. Luu Manh Tuan - Chairman of Ha Long Ward People's Committee - said that he has requested households to demolish spontaneous wastewater pipes, otherwise, after dredging canals and ditches is completed, the ward will also demolish them.

As Lao Dong Newspaper reflected, the system of canals and regulating lakes in Monbay urban area, Ha Long ward, Quang Ninh province is heavily polluted. At times, fish die en masse, the water surface is black and smells strongly, causing adjacent villas and houses to always close their doors.

According to representatives of functional agencies of Ha Long ward, there was no such severe pollution before, maybe recently more people moved here and arbitrarily built more wastewater pipes to discharge wastewater directly into the canal.

What is worrying is that all wastewater from here is discharged directly into Ha Long Bay, causing sewers right on the bay bank to always be in a stench.

Moreover, the polluted area is located right next to Quang Ninh Museum, Dolphin Palace - iconic destinations of the province's tourism, causing negative impacts on the local tourism environment image.

Monbay urban area is 17.89ha wide, located in a prime location in old Hong Hai ward (now Ha Long ward), in front of Ha Long Bay, with a total investment of about 5,000 billion VND, completed in 2018. This urban area includes 311 adjacent apartments, 77 commercial townhouses, 24 detached villas and 30 twin villas.
