Temporary drainage ditches
After Lao Dong Newspaper reported that the road in front of Bao Ninh Primary School No. 2 (Dong Hoi Ward, Quang Tri Province) was often flooded after each rain, the local government quickly took action, initially overcoming the long-term water stagnation.
On November 10, Mr. Le Duc Trong - Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Department of Dong Hoi Ward said that immediately after receiving the feedback, the Ward People's Committee organized a survey of the scene with the professional unit.
The results show that this area has a lower elevation than neighboring roads, causing concentrated rainwater, along with the fact that the drainage system here has not been completed.

From that reality, the ward has coordinated with Quang Binh Urban Development and Environment Joint Stock Company to implement a temporary solution to unblock the flow.
The unit has opened a water channel connecting to a large road next to it, allowing water to overflow through an empty lot at low altitude and then connecting to the sewer system along the square road with Vo Nguyen Giap Street.
"This measure has helped the water recede faster after the rain, significantly limiting prolonged flooding that affects people's lives and students' learning" - Mr. Trong said.
However, he also affirmed that this is only a temporary solution. In the coming time, the Department of Economy, Infrastructure and Urban Areas will recommend the Ward People's Committee to have a detailed report and propose to superiors to invest in a synchronous drainage system, thoroughly handling the causes of flooding.
According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper on November 10, the area that had been previously reported had receded. Next to this area, there is a water pipeline that has been dug to bring water to the empty area, then connected to the Vo Nguyen Giap pipeline.
A resident said that after Lao Dong Newspaper reported, the local authorities quickly arrived to dig this drainage ditch.
Expecting a thorough solution
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper published an article reflecting that the road in front of Bao Ninh Primary School No. 2 often turned into a "water lake" after heavy rain. Recorded on the afternoon of November 5, although the weather has returned to sunshine, many sections are still deeply flooded, with muddy water extending for tens of meters.

The image of students having to wade around to class, parents carrying their children through flooded areas has become familiar to local people.
Mr. Pham Thuat, a resident living near the area, said that this situation has been going on for many years but has not been completely handled.
Every time it rains heavily, the water rises to the schoolyard, and there are days when students have to stay home from school because they cannot go to class, he said.
According to the people, the early survey and handling of the ward authorities and functional units has somewhat reduced the worries every time it rains; however, they expect to have a fundamental solution, investing in a complete drainage system so that the road in front of the school gate no longer has to repeat the "sea of water" scene after the rain.
