On the morning of August 7, information from the People's Committee of Mai Son commune said that a large sinkhole had just appeared in the commune in the sub-region of 19/5 province, affecting the people's production land and fish ponds.

Accordingly, at around 8:30 a.m. on August 6, people discovered that the pond bank was cracked, the hole had collapsed, and the water in the pond was flowing into the hole.
The location of the subsidence is on the boundary between the land plot of Mr. Pham Van Tap and Ms. Bi Thi Ly.
The hole is about 7m wide and nearly 10m deep. The subsidence area is about 40m from the house. According to local people, this location was previously a low-lying area, often with water stagnant during heavy rain. Later, the land was renovated to dig ponds and level to serve cultivation.
Immediately after the incident, the People's Committee of Mai Son commune directed the Management Board of the 19th sub-zone in May to conduct zoning, stretch warning ropes and widely notify people not to travel in dangerous areas without permission.
At the same time, assign people to be on duty and closely monitor to ensure absolute safety for the people.

To clarify the cause and isolate the area at risk of subsidence, the People's Committee of Mai Son commune has issued a document requesting the People's Committee of Son La province to direct relevant departments and branches to coordinate in surveying geology and determining the cause of the subsidence for handling.
