Maximizing acceleration when checking emissions, old diesel cars are at risk of engine breakage

MINH QUÂN |

Ho Chi Minh City - Accelerating to the maximum when checking emissions can cause old, poorly maintained diesel cars to encounter problems such as curved handlebars, broken engine blocks.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just issued a document reminding drivers and transport businesses of issues to pay attention to when taking cars for registration according to the new process, especially for vehicles using diesel engines.

According to the Department of Construction, for vehicles equipped with diesel engines - especially vehicles that have been used for many years and have not been properly maintained, exhaust gas testing using the free acceleration method (pressing the gas to the maximum) may pose a risk of mechanical damage.

In some cases, the engine may encounter problems such as a wing bend or engine breakage.

Functional agencies said that if the maximum unloaded speed limit according to the manufacturer's technical documents cannot be determined, vehicle owners must sign a written commitment to take responsibility for damages arising during emission testing.

In case the vehicle owner does not agree to sign a commitment, or the vehicle registration inspector detects abnormal signs such as strange tapping sounds, fuel leakage..., the vehicle registration facility will refuse to conduct inspection and conclude that the vehicle does not meet standards.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, from March 1st, car emission testing will be carried out according to a new process. However, right on the first day of deployment, the vehicle registration software system experienced overload.

The results of inspection, stamp printing and numbering were interrupted, causing some vehicle registration centers to fall into a state of vehicle congestion.

To limit this situation, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction proposed that transport associations and businesses proactively review the registration period of vehicles, develop plans to take vehicles for appropriate inspection, and avoid concentrating vehicles at the same time.

In addition, vehicle owners are also advised to proactively maintain their vehicles before going for registration. Some items that need to be checked include lubricant replacement, air filter replacement, fuel chamber cleaning, fuel system and exhaust gas treatment system inspection.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, not preparing carefully before registration may cause the vehicle not to meet the emission standards corresponding to the year of manufacture. At that time, the vehicle will not be granted a certificate and inspection stamp, directly affecting the transportation and business activities of the enterprise.
