It is known that Honda vehicles with 3.5-liter V6 engines are under investigation by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These include Honda Pilot and Acura MDX manufactured between 2016 and 2020.
In addition, this investigation is also conducted on Honda Odyssey and Acura TLX vehicles manufactured between 2018 and 2020 and Honda Ridgeline vehicles manufactured between 2017 and 2019.
According to a notice on its website, NHTSA said the investigation is related to a manufacturing defect in the engine crankshaft, which poses a risk of premature wear and seizure of the connecting rod bearing, leading to engine failure.
Previously, in November 2023, the famous Japanese automaker had to recall 249,000 vehicles in the US for a similar defect. However, the above investigative agency said that they continued to receive 173 complaints from car owners about the connecting rod bearing defect on models that were not included in the recall Honda had made last year.
As a result, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened the above investigation to determine the severity of the manufacturing defect among vehicles not included in the 2023 recall.
For Honda's part, the company said it will commit to cooperating closely with NHTSA in the investigation.
